Windsor vs Cleveland vs Boss

Just wondering out of the above three you prefer, and the reasons why you prefer them.

It can be for price, myths, where there from, how it flows of your tongue any reason. I just want to know what you prefer and why you prefer it.

oh god, its going to get ugly.

I unfortunately haven't had much experience with the other two, although I did learn on my L's in a 351 ZH Marquis; mmm overtaking power!

But the Boss get the nod from me, not many modern motors sound as good.

I say windsor.

Reason is because it was the first ford v8 i ever drove (genIII was my : first) . It was in my old mans 1966 Mustang with worked 289w and top loader. Still is a hell of a lot of fun to drive.

Clevelands' are a fantastic engine for the sheer easy power they can make due to their great heads and crank/rod ratio. Unfortunately they are heavy, the oiling system is a bit ordinary and Ford doesen't make them anymore. The windsor is a little ripper being light and compact,but is restricted with a short deck height (in 302 form) that restricts stroke and rod length. The windsor did have the longest production life though it also is dead now. The new boss is a good thing, but it could have been better. It has great heads, but the bottom end is designed for moving F250's, so it has a long stroke and a small bore that restricts it's breathing. If the boss had the cleveland bore/stroke/rod, and the weight of a windsor, it would be the ultimate!

CLEVELAND
Hopefully in the not too distant future,well will have an aftermarket cleveland block,then we wont have to worry about strength,oiling etc
Then well see the true potential of the mighty clevo.....

Take a heavy weight modern car with all todays luxuries and handling, add a few bolt on accessories without even opening the motor, retune the computer get great reliable driving, starts first time everytime, gets great fuel economy and run 11's

A modern day equivilant to the small block "BOSS 302" motor would be a NASCAR or V8Supercar motor: Yates cleveland style heads on the SVO wheezor style block.

Haven't had enough experience with the engines to comment, but I do like the Clevo's, as the inlaws had one in his XB.

I vote clevo but the Boss does impress me. Now imagine if the clevo could have quad cams :sm_drool: I like the boss because of the quad cams.

Boss 302 <= Won 1970 TransAm championship. Won in the Hands of Moffat. Real Performance... fastest 302 there was in 1969 and 1970.
Boss 429 <= The beastiest Production motor Ford ever put in a car (1969/1970)
Boss 351 <= The fastest small block Ford ever produced. (Its a 4 bolt Clevo, not a windsor block btw, 1971/1972)
Boss 260/290 <= Spot the odd one out?

4V cleveland (virtually the BOSS 351) won Bathurst 5 times! 1970,71,73,74,77! and a heap of ATCC races and championships.

I own a 5.0L windsor putting out 240-250 kw and it sounds like a little wussy aszed fluffly puupy when compared to a cleveland.

I believe XA-XE Group Cs had alloy intakes.

They had buddybar alloy manifolds from 1971 onwards, and 4 bolt mains from 1974 onwards.

Go the little wheezer, Plenty of aftermarket support, good all round motor that can be a subtle little runabout or a raging monster. But im pretty biased.
