Default Reliable Ford for $1000-$1500?

What sort of Ford would you choose if you needed a car to drive while working on your project. Prob for a year or two. They always need TLC but no major repairs required. Has to be able to tow a trailer. So no Lasers!

I have seen all of these models for sale in this range. Obviously in varying condition. I guess Im worried I buy a bunky EF, and something electrical fails that I dont understand, and it costs a fortune to repair. Or I buy an XD or older only to spend more time working on it than my ZA

What would you look at?
