Since starting driving 40 years ago I see (particularly in Sydney, my own familiar patch) very dumbed-down driving since then. The cars and roads may be safer - and probably the principal reason for the reduced road toll - but the people driving them are more dangerous than ever. Not because of speeding (they don't) but because lack of attention to their driving environment.

Or possibly they are paying a lot of attention, just not to anything outside their car......
