Hi all, my mum has just purchased an '09 Honda Accord Euro Luxury Auto. We have had it for 5 months now and noticed that it was starting to make a pinging noise, from the engine. We took it in for its 10000 service and had a list of problems,
-engine pinging -handbrake loose -rattles in various locations over boot -ignition when turned to the on position is in drive and park at the same time -memory seating randomly doesnt work sometimes. My Dad took it in and asked to speak with someone about it. He spoke to a mechanic and said we have changed petrol and run it on standard fuel, e10, and premium but it still pings. He said oh ok oum well we have been having a problem with this new model, the car is not firing when the piston is in the right spot. He explained that the valves timing may be slightly wrong as well as the computer not picking up the fuel octane. He assured us that it wont do long term damage and says oh you can keep driving it, we will ring you when we get an answer from Japan. My dad asked so how many cars have this problem and the mechanic says only four. My dad said in the state? the country? he replied oh no in this dealership and thats all we know about. The dealership is not very big and would have sold no more than 20 cars. We asked about the other problems and he said " We think we have fixed the rattles above the boot, we cant fix the problem with the car being in drive and park in the on position, decides it's not that big an issue. I ordered a new handbrake assembly for it and we will notify you to recall the car if we can fix the engine". My Dad walked away with a bee in his bonnet and also gobsmacked that a company known for their quality and reliability amongst sorts, would respond to relatively major problems in such an unprofessional way, but then again that was only the dealership. http://fordforums.com.au/newthread.p...newthread&f=2# wil keep you notified on what happens with it. |

Japan > Thailand
Honda now sources there Australian cars from Thailand and well the build quality has gone downhill. I personally was still impressed with the build quality of the new Civic, but yeah expect a donhill slide. Though this probablt seems to a bit of buying a new model before theyve sorted the gremlins and a bit of dealer trouble. Not good though, this only hurts brand reputation.

The rather casual attitude and response of the mechanic isnt a surprise. Most dealership employees at a junior level, esp the mechanics wouldnt really worry about brand reputation and customer interests/service (in most cases).
Have you contacted the dealership principal and more importantly Honda Australia? Highlight the damage caused to the brand. Would be very surprised if honda take an indifferent attitude to these serious problems. Especially considering their quality and reputation. |

Hondas are very over rated. Good but not the best and that goes for all their stuff, bikes, mowers, cars etc.

How can it be a 5 month old 09 Accord Euro when 2009 is only into its first month?
Regardless, a five month old car should never have these problems. Fight.

I work at a Honda Dealer.
U will notice the lights on the dash say P and D while ignition is turned to on. All Auto Hondas do this it is just part of thier checks and nothing to be alarmed about. As for rattles in the boot have you had a spoiler fitted to it. at my dealer i have had shavings from where they drill the holes for the spoiler left in the boot lid. Pinging is normally because the car has run for a period of time on 91 octane fuel. Euros demand to run 95 all of the time. I cant even believe the dealer told you to run it on normal to see what happened. You will find that the Euros are still made in Japan. As for the park brake is the first one I have heard of and that is saying something as i drive different Euros everyday including mine and company car |

Seems like your Mum has been running it on Standard Fuel which May be why it is Pinging & not sure if they Like E10 Either?
Simply run it on 95 or 98 Octane for a few Tanks. Rattles happen in most Vehicles & can be fixed. Handbrake adjustment again most vehicles. Seat needs Looking at. Attitude of young Mechanic, Sucks Big Time! |

I bleed blue and I have owned many Ford new and second hand but the quallity compared to Honda's is rubbish.
I have friends who are dedicated Honda owners and I had a Prelude that's only problem in 80,000 hard km's was stone chips. Whilst a Euro is not my thing ( the reason I am not a repeat Honda owner) they are a well built car and if you have one of the few with issues ring Honda, be firm and polite and they will sort it.
