Here is a story from
carsales.com.au American media outlets are reporting that Ford is secretly working on an EcoBoost version of its new Coyote V8. Although speculation at this stage is a twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 packing at least 400kW, it could be just what FPV is after to stuff under the bonnet of its much-rumoured GT-HO revival. While we must stress at this point there have been no whispers from FPV's Broadmeadows HQ, the scuttlebutt from Detroit is different. Online publication The Detroit Bureau is reporting that the twin-turbo EcoBoost V8 could be readied to slot under the bonnet of the Shelby GT Mustang. Ford has already confirmed an EcoBoost V6 in addition to the inline four-cylinder powerplant Ford Australia will use in the Falcon. Given that the current supercharged 5.4-litre V8, originally developed for the Ford GT and now used in the Shelby, produces 400kW (540hp) don't expect anything less from the EcoBoost version. The benefits for using the EcoBoost technology for direct injection and forced induction would have a major benefit on the fuel economy for the increasingly scorned current V8. Such an engine would surely make an ideal candidate for a resurrected GT-HO, should the car ever move from daydream to reality. This is all strictly from the rumourfile but as the saying goes, there's no smoke without fire Interesting times

Sounds lovely but really, how much of it can we believe? That many people start threads claiming to have inside info on a GTHO etc etc, and none of them seem to be true. The last paragraph even states it is only a rumour anyway, so really there's nothing anyone can do but speculate.

We all know that the next HO is getting a V10 boss anyways, so kind of pointless info

He meant that Ford US has confirmed a V6, as well as an I4 ecoboost engine, and that Ford Oz are using the I4. |

I find it funny that it has been mentioned in the Ceyote thread that Ford were not doing an Ecoboost V8...

I think this is the "Roadrunner" V8 thing that has been going around. Mike at Pickuptrucks.com mentioned it a while back, I think it will go in a future version of the Mustang. So GTHO is quite possible.

Don't let it be like it was with the modular "not" fitting the AU. Remember that excuse? Ford's reason for keeping the Windsor was the Modular 4.6L in SOHC or DOHC 'simply won't fit the engine bay'. That argument was simply made irrelevant a few years later. The Hilliers put one in, just as you have done recently. Wish we had the 4.6L DOHC 240kW motor when GM Holden had the 225kW LS1. Would've been a great / even fight.

What a nothing story - an Ecoboost would be perfect for a GTHO just as the Ford GT and Mustang GT500 s/c 5.4's would have been perfect. Still doesn't mean there is or will necessarily be a business case to build a GTHO. |

TTV8 is 'Bobcat', which isn't based off the Coyote design, and it's made of CGI. No such thing as Ecoboost V8, as the technology which is used in Bobcat is beyond that of Ecoboost's. It's "the next step", and is currently under development.
