Default Camoed SZ Territory in USA mistaken for compact Lincoln CUV

This is really quite funny because it's obvious to us but not the Americans, that this is the Ausie Territory.

Crash testing for a change of engines?

Can't be for the 3.0 v6 diesel, that's same engine series as the 2.7 so maybe Terry is getting Falcon's 2.0 Ecoboost?

Diesel in Falcon I could understand. But Ecoboost in Territory? I struggle with that one. Unless you're thinking 3.5 Ecoboost. But that's not much better....

Funny they didn't even notice it was RHD.

Given they have the Explorer, I highly doubt it.

I was thinking the same thing but as stated above i dont think so as the terry and explorer are the roughly the same size the only diff is the engine types

I would think maybe its there for trial fits of the "one Ford " engines to see how dificult it is to fit them without to much engineering

Makes me also wonder if they have the Falcon over there to do the same thing test fit engines so foa may be able to continue with production here

on the other side of the coin they could be seeing if they could be manufactured over there for export to aus etc

just my 2 cents worth

Yeah maybe not but when the author thinks

"...But now, Ford Motor Co. seems intent on giving Lincoln what it needs with an assortment of offerings that will cover a lot more white space over the next few years.

The turnaround effort gets seriously underway in 2013 with the launch of an all-new Lincoln MKZ and is followed by, among other critical additions, an all-new sport-utility vehicle — shown here."

...then there presents opportunity

(acknowledged it may be a little rosey)

The only reason Aussie Fords go to Detroit is for crash testing, the model is clearly RHD so it's for our region.

Well...there are only two reasons for it.

-Product assessment
-Change of engine

Now...say that the i6 doesn't make euro 5 (or is it 6)...you'll need a new engine. EB 4 would be a prime candidate...

In that theory...this tells us (as a few non wowsers have known), that the 2016 cut of date is a la la land dream date.

And...if its not there just for a engine...export!

lets face it the terry is vastly superior to the exploder so maybe they are evaluating it for export. I'm sure the yanks would love our I6 turbo

I don't agree. I was in my cousins 2011 Explorer LTD ,last year and its equipped much better than our Tezza Titanium..drives and handles very well...the new Explorer is much better than what came here..cann't compare the two

Silly question, but why would it need to be camoed if its crash testing? Or even for a new engine?

Yanks drove a camoed FG around for ages after it had been released in Australia.

Falcon needs V6 diesel, Territory needs I-4 Ecoboost for efficient base engine.

I agree in terms of the tech inside the car.. However, I'm hoping the updated Falcon/ Territory in 2014 fixes all that. So with the added Tech in the 2014 version, then Territory would be much better I think.

It would be great if Ford was secretly working on this for the 2014 update, but I don’t think we'll ever see this one unfortunately.

Well this is utterly bizarre. As has been said, the only reason Australian Fords are in the US is for crash testing. Unless there has been a major structural change or an engine change, I can't explain why it is there.

Have Ford announced any Territory updates alongside Falcon for 2014? Would any such new model need crash testing?

There could be a "range" of new engine's being put forward for the upcoming Terri, somewhere along the 3.2L capacity maybe ?.

Be cool if it was a test platform for the 2.3 ecoboost thats coming out soon. But really why is it there so late after market release?

Testing the waters for ditching the I6 altogether?

Why the camo?
Maybe they don't want the Americans to realise there are better looking Fords made elsewhere than the US.

The main differences between the Terri and the Edge is that the Edge does not have third row seating capability, nor a diesel engine. The Territory is also a benchmark for handling and driving dynamics.

Maybe they are benchmarking the Territory's driving dynamics in the lead up to an American designed, probably Thai built replacement in a few years?

Territory has some time to run yet so most like evaluation for global V6 is my guess.

A 3.5 ecoboost would be brilliant in the Terry.
