Default Jalopnik discovers the AU Mobile office

Jalopnik got a look at the AU Mobile Office option and loved it.

AFF and Raptor get a mention!

Here it is in the AU Futura

Who would be silly enough to buy one?

And imagine it today, the govmint would have special cameras to ping motorists who used the 'desk' while driving.

I remember this pic from brochures when I was a kid...

The one thing that confused me was an AU1 Future (or any AU Futura) didn't get the half antenna height button like pictured 🤔

I reckon it's a cool option, though strange they didn't offer it with the Fairmont/Ghia models. It's not like they had to modify the centre console to fit it so why not?

Now if you have one of these desks, all you need is the electronic organiser to go with it, similar to this Sharp unit.

Well, as you probably know, you know it all GC, it does have a recess where the T bar fits into it in park.

What you can do is modify the unit to have another recess when in Drive so that it doesn't wobble about.

Geez I know a lot of ****.

I had one about 15 or so years ago.

Our dealership was throwing them out and I decided to grab one. After a while it was taking up space and threw it out myself. Still have the bag it came in somewhere though

Is it possible they were worried it would scratch the leather shifter handle? Not as much of an issue on a plastic Forte/Futura shifter.
