As you know, aircraft are designed for optimum climb, cruise and decent speeds. They can and do go faster especially on decent. These are pre-determined speed limits set by the manufacturer and you are judged (amongst other skills) on how well you can hold and maintain these speeds, especially on final approach.

The closer you fly to these speed limits, the more skilled you are considered. That say's something doesn't it!

In flying, while good airman ship is a result of good training and good attitude, poor airman ship is frowned upon and never tolerated. You would risk death and injury, and at the very very least, you would be putting your reputation and character on the line to be harshly judged amongst your peers. We do not seem to universally share this view on the road.

If people were trained to drive and understood the risks in much the same way, you would not see so much stupidity out there.
It's much easier to get your car license then your PPL/GPL/CPL etc. Flying is a much more complicated skill then driving, and skill is demonstrated by getting close to that speed, by as the skill between these idiots is "How fast can ya go?".

If this incident happened during the day, I'd question how they brought these cars, wouldn't they have a good to be at? Idiots they are! :

Great story. Glad to hear it was only him injured the accident, so its a great result in the end. Also getting statements from people who story will be the same, contradicting his story, will also prove to be another nail in his cofin. A Plater, I doubt will get a licence for a very long time.

A win win all round I say

Good on you. I probably would have left it at Karma getting him, but you did the right thing in having a few other charges added - I just probably couldn't be bothered to stop (unless I was the only witness, then I would stop, of course). Excellent job!

Totally agree with your actions mate...Someone could have been seriously hurt, if not killed.

If you wanna be a hoon take it to the track where nobody else suffers

Interesting, but i have to disagree with one thing, 120+km/h is NOT extremely high speed, that would be 220+km/h, and any idea on what happened to they guy in the jap car?

Depends what the speed limit is. If it was in a 110 zone, then no. I dont know that place at all, but by the sounds of things it was a 60-80 zone, so 120+ is pretty fast

Oh come on. That's alittle over the top wouldn't you think? Yes he did something stupid, may have endangered lives, but he just paid for it by wraping his car into a pole and closely killing himself. Plus Charges to come.

If you din't care, keep driving. To stop, laugh, spit in there face, then drive off without even makign sure they're ok, is more morally and in-decent then his act of driving his car in such a stupid manner.

I can say, yes throw the book at him, but the line is drawn there. ^^^^

Why do you feel the need to point out he's a P plater? Working for the Daily Telegraph?

People do stupid sh!t no matter what their age. With young blokes it's more often than not speed..but I'll tell you that I've had more close calls with old folk who simply don't know the road rules or who are un-aware of their surroundings than I've had with P platers speeding.

Give it a break.

(btw - I'm not a P plater....)

I remember a while back i was driving home after a get together at a mates place. I was in my old XC coupe, just after midnight doing about 90kmh odd crusing away on a country road in the Macarthur region.

Out of no where a VC Commadore flew past me as if i was standing still. The noise of the ratly 202 was trememdous.

A bit on up the road, about 10 minutes, i negotiated a wide sweeping left hand turn, almost a hairpin, only to find Commodore tail lights glaring back at me in the scrub on the other side of the corner.

The bloke and a woman were siting outside as mr speedy was looking quite embarased to say the very least as the woman was on the mobile.

I pulled up and asked if they were ok, which they were. The bloke mumbled something and didnt want to look me in the eye.

I smilled shook my head, droped the clutch then drove off.

We have all been guilty of speeding i guess, but its only a matter of time before speeding drivers slip up, best case a speeding ticket or the worst, death of yourself, or another...................

We've all done stupid stuff in the past. Let's just hope he's smart enough to learn from it. It would certainly be a wake up call.

Hi all,

I just wanted to share a little story with you all regarding the antics of a young P plater that I witnessed on Sunday in Adelaide.

I was minding my own business driving north along South Road just past the Regency TAFE College when I glanced in my rear view mirror and spotted a red BA Falcon approaching from behind at VERY high speed.

My immediate thoughts were that there was no way this guy was going to be able to slow down before he hit me so I instinctively accelerated (to get ahead of the car in the lane to my left) and changed into the left lane.

The falcon screamed past me a split second later and right on his tail was some other little jap car. These two idiots (both wearing P plates) were not stopping for anyone and were obviously racing or chasing each other.

I wasn't able to get their rego details as it all happened so quick and I could see them up ahead weaving in and out of traffic still racing each other.

This pair of clowns were driving at extremely high speeds (120+) and were very dangerous to other drivers.

Anyway, they got stuck at the traffic lights on Grand Junction Road/South Road intersection but they were about 10 cars ahead of me so I still couldn't get their rego details.

When the lights turned green they once again took off and weaved around the rest of the traffic until they had a free run and accelerated out of sight once again.

The story pretty much continues on the same for the next 5-10kms. I would catch up to them when they got stuck in slower moving traffic (albeit still a fair way behind) and once they had bullied the other drivers out of the way they would accelerate out of sight.

To cut a long story short I eventually spotted the falcon stopped at a set of light on Salisbury Highway (just after the Port Wakefield Rd overpass) and arrived at the set of lights to witness the Falcon driver take off and smoke it up as he turned right.

The next chain of events proved to me that karma certainly does exist.

The young driver floored it around the corner and got it sideways, he over corrected and got it sideways the other way. He then overcorrected once again and the rear of the falcon swung out to the left, mounted the gutter, took out a couple of signs posts and they collected a whopping big light post which was knocked to the ground.

I stopped along with a few other drivers and checked on the driver. He was unhurt although a little shaken.

His Falcon was an absolute write off though. The rear left quarter was completely destroyed from rear door to bumper, the rear screen smashed, the diff ripped from it's mount, bumper ripped off and major body damage to the c pillars etc.

While I felt bad for the young guy trashing his car I can only say that he got exactly what he deserved. It also could have been much worse.

This guys was driving extremely fast and dangerously and in doing so put my life and those of numerous other motorists at risk.

I had fully intended to follow this young guy to his house and get his details and make an official complaint. I wouldn't normally do this but this was an extreme case of dangerous driving and I was mighty ****ed about it.

Anyway, I called the police and when they attended the accident .I told them the full story resulting in several more charges being added to the list (he didn't tell the truth about how the accident occured).

I have also been contacted by the police to make a full statement of the events leading up to the accident and they plan to press other charges.

So if you are driving like an idiot just remember that not everyone will put up with your antics and will stand up and make sure you get your day in court.

You may get lucky too and only write your car off and not kill someone. This young fellow got off much lighter than what could have possibly happened.

Thats my rant. Some of you may disagree with my actions, but next time some idiot does something stupid on the road that puts you at risk maybe you should think about making a stand and getting these idiots off the road.

I think the young fellows father was going to kick him senseless too when he got him home after seeing his reaction at the damage when he arrived on the scene.

Sorry - this is not meant to be a lecture but after reading through my post it certainly sounds like one. :-)

i dont feel sorry for him, he got what he deserved, but i feel sorry for the BA.
in those sort of situations, where the driver has it coming (and you know hes not injured), you should attend to the vehicle first.

same sort of thing happened to me but from the idiots side, Was turning right out of a roundabout in my (was) 2000 AUII XL ute, had me ex missus screaming in my ear and we had both had a couple of drinks. On my P's at the time also, so i got the shits with her and floored it around the roundabout (completely forgetting that utes are alot lighter in the *** end) and had it sideways, over corrected twice and ended up slammin into a construction site. Completely wrote the ute off into a besser brick wall. No one was injured (thank god) but could only blame meself for gettin behind the wheel after a couple. Anyways, called the cops myself and told them what had happened and where etc, admitted i had a couple of beers prior to the breath test and took full responsibility. I was .088 over. Court day saw me lose me license for 3 months and got $400 fine. Since that very day/night, if i plan on having one or two beers i hand the keys over and walk/cab/bus/cartwheel home lol. not worth the hassle really but a good lesson learnt at the end of the day. Lots of people do it, its only a matter of time before something goes horribly wrong, i guess i just forgot that driving is a privelage and took it for granted. Anyhoo just thought id throw it out there

have a good one

At least he may have learnt his lesson.

Yea - i mean i couldn't blame anyone else and running is just a coward act. If you screw up, take responsibility, be prepared for the consequences and learn from your mistake - it may sound like a vicious cycle but i had to learn somehow and unfortunately for me, it was the hard way.........

I would have pulled up and laughed at him and called him a few names.

The old man did a brilliant one a wile back, same sort of thing, except they flew up the outside then cut in front of him and kept going, then they got stuck at lights.

It's a shame it takes something like this for them to learn their mistakes - they put all our lives at risk. I was taught early 'driving to prevailing conditions' - Yo cannot drive like that and expect not to crash..even the Stig could lose it or cause someone else who is not a party to your actions to crash.

Id have reported them - its d*^ks like this that lead to draconian laws that affect all of us.
