ANCAP's limited budget means it is unlikely to crash-test every imported model but it will assess models for testing based on their popularity and safety attributes

If they crash tested everyone they wouldn't be worth much afterwards would they?

Hmmm the Chinese make every type of car available yet they are going after the body on frame utes. Apart from the less stringent safety standards, it speaks volumes that the Chinese are targeting this segment, simply because the competition is not very good.
50 grand for a rubbish Ranger, Colorado, BT-50, come on! The existing players had this coming.

And for the Australian market, the big brands are already made in Thailand (and the lack of quality shows). So their comfortable ride has come to an end. Maybe Ford should build the Ranger in Australia and export to NZ and South Africa. Bring quality in to that segment to justify the higher price. Give it the 3.7 V6, 2.0T EcoBoost and 3.0 V6 diesel, and import the F-series again. But this time, bring in the F-150 (with 3.5 V6T EcoBoost as an option). If you are not going to beat em on price, at least offer a better product I say.

There you go fixed.

Seriously tough? is it just me or would the Falcon six be perfect for the Ranger, it is very powerful, with loads of torque, a long lifespan, and gets good economy? seriously why isn't this done like this now?

You would think that if you were going to steal the Tribeca front, you would at least pick the later design, not the shocking one.

The lower spec model seems to have the old Rodeo body and the higher spec seems to have the later Rodeo body, from the mirrors back anyway.

We're fighting a losing battle gents. Soon, all of our roads and highways will be filled with these monstrosoties they call Automobiles. How the heck the Gumbyment allows them in with no airbags and ABS is beyond me.

They appeal to the masses, cheap, nasty throwaway appliances for a society that really doesn't value anything anymore.

Yes, this is how we saw Hyundai 20 years ago and look at them now. Selling by the bucketload. Have you driven or been in one? Absolute piece of crap, that feels like everything is made out of recycled plastic and (ahem) metal.

Given time, some of us may purchase one of these Chinese fugly cars, all I can say is, if in an accident, I know which car I would rather be in, and it's not made in China.

Unfortunately, they will sell, because $5K to $10K cheaper than their counterparts for a similar POS, which one would you go for? Most will purchase for that New Car Smell, I just hope their dealer network is ready for all the warranty claims, the bas_ards are going to be as busy as a frog in a sock!! :

This PROVES that chinese copies are rubbish

An 80's VW copy that easily passed the 64kph test when VW made it but look at the Chinese copy.

IT gets destroyed right back to the C pillar.

Does not matter if it looks like a tank. Its whats inside that counts.

These would probally sell like the Mahindra trucks. Does anyone know if the Mahindra trucks are still on the Australian market? They weren't very good according to this car advice review. I wonder if these will be the same.

Makes me safe driving around in my AU now. Hit one of them, ill be able to break out a rag, wipe it off, and be on my merry way, while the person in the ute is left dissmembered and hanging out the window.

A straight 6 may be too long hence them all having low torque V6's that guzzle the fuel. Trying to pull 2 ton of the line loaded and or with a trailer shows why the diesel models outsell the petrol four to one.

If Ford made one with the Barra on factory LPG it would sell like hot cakes to tradesman.

What that clip does prove is that anyone can get any clip off youtube, modify it how they see fit, then re-post it so other fools can think it is real.

If you buy one of these you have some serious mental issues, first of all they look hideous and very cheap, and most of all to buy one of these over a ranger/hilux/navara/cruiser, you are obviously tighter than a crabs bum! :

Its fairly common in small cars to fit rear drum brakes, last model Fiesta included.

But in a heavy ute carrying a load I see your point.

Yeah, but take a look at the size of those drums, they are small truck sized. I bet these ones are probably datsun 120Y sized!

Just another thing I thought of that I don't think has been bought up yet, RESALE! I highly suspect the resale on these things will dive remarkably low, I can't see why anybody would buy a 2 year old one of these, over a 5 year old Hilux. So that initial price saving is pretty false in the long run, because it will cost you more to own in the long run.
