The only difference between Euro 4 and Euro 5 is NOx emissions and guaranteeing the emissions control equipment will last 160,000klm. This should be well within reach of the I6's capability to last it until 2015 at which time it will get retired regardless of which way the Falcon jumps for the next gen platform.

The dating on the new emissions laws were seemingly written to suit Ford to a T. All new cars after November 2013 must be Euro 5 compliant, otherwise you can have an exemption till 2016.
When is Fords next rumoured upgrade, either April/May or September/October 2013, if approved. Perfect timing to avoid having to make the I6 Euro 5 compatible. It will take Ford through to the new Falcon if there is one, and a new V6. Holden will supposedly have an upgraded Commodore on sale before that date in 2013 as well. Good to see the government working with the manufacturers. It will save them both millions in development. |
