There is a big difference in exhaust housing size of those two turbos, are they the "same" equivilent of each other or is the normal one a bigger turbo?

Completely different turbos and exhaust manifolds, used for the demonstration purpose alone .

In what way? The article you just posted was a positive review, he liked the car and gave what I thought was an honest opinion of it based on that drive.

Our good friend Joshua Dowling from Carsguide on the V8 Mustang GT:

http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-revi...5#.VCUdAmeKAuU

Quote:
VERDICT
Fans of the Ford Falcon GT are going to love the new Mustang. It drives like a Falcon GT that’s better glued to the road, and has just as much power on tap.

If Holden continues after its factory closure without a V8 in its line-up -- as is the plan at this point in time -- then there is every chance there will be a long list of Holden loyalists who will put their allegiances aside and may end up buying their very first Ford.

Yep, it’s so good people might just change which team they barrack for.

And the Ecoboost 4:

http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-revi...2#.VCUd4GeKAuU

Quote:
VERDICT
The four-cylinder Mustang is a revelation. It steers with the same level of poise as a BMW coupe. In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s a BMW squeezed under a bulging Mustang body.
But even though the new Mustang four-cylinder is one of the surprise packets of the year, it will take great courage -- and a sharp price -- to get buyers to sign on the dotted line for one of these over the V8.

Early indications from dealers are that
the new four-cylinder Mustang will start at about $50,000, while the V8 will be closer to $70,000.

Would I buy a four-cylinder Ford Mustang? Absolutely. It looks the business, is fun to drive, and uses a fraction of the V8’s fuel. Just don’t rev the engine while anyone else is around.

Some useful data for making your engine choice.
Fuel tank size: EcoBoost: 58.5L; V8: 60.5L
Fuel econ: EcoBoost: 10.7L/100 city, 7.5L/100 hwy; V8: 15.5L/100 city, 9.4L/100 hwy.
Range: EcoBoost: 547-780km; V8: 390-644 km (and ~$3 more to fill up).
0-100: EcoBoost: 5.5 seconds; V8: 4.4 seconds

Mustang is an icon but it was never high tech tour de force. It is more about the look and image than track days. At least the 2015 has got independent rear suspension . Sales will depends on pricing and where Ford AU position it - is it premium product and who are the main competitors ?

Dowling must've had three weetbix that day.... Haven't read any clashing reviews and while Mustang has a history of low-tech (mostly due that live rear, funny how 9/10 drivers wouldn't notice any difference though in their day to day driving....just know it has the attached stigma of not having IRS god forbid) there has to be something in the blanket accolades this thing is getting, sounds like they've done a little of the Fez/Focus ST style magic on it. Ecoboost is still remarkably rapid....sheez the things a second quicker than almost anything I grew up with (I remember those Group A ad's proudly proclaiming 6.5 to 100, wow!). Australia is a funny old country, just because something sounds good on paper and makes sense doesn't mean it'll sell. Course you can always wind the windows down and hope the fake noises make it out the window Smart choice to keep the missus content if you must though. Certainly not a automatic choice for current turbo six owners still....it'll be interesting to see IF they buy Mustang and which way they swing on engine choice.

Top Gear Australia believes in their review that the EcoBoost will be more expensive than the Falcon XR8. Ford wouldn't want many people to buy if that were true, although I'm pretty sure the EcoBoost won't be that expensive.

I'm dead keen on one of these, but if the EcoBoost is 50k and the GT is circa 70k you can count me out.

$$ depends on where, in the future, Ford US decide to build this car.

I mean, after a couple of years, what's to say they decide to build in one of the new Chinese plants, or in Thailand- just for the right hand drive markets.

We also need to remember the Aussie $$ is dropping and likely to drop further, making the need to build in these Asian countries - well for all our sakes.

Is it me or is the GT very thirsty at 15.5L/100? Whats a current FG V8 rated and how do they compare power wise?
Almost 50% more to run round town and 30% more hwy than the Ecoboost.

You cant really compare US economy ratings to Australia as they are tested differently.

Ford racing have already released times for their tweaked Mustangs...
"...EcoBoost Mustang, naturally aspirated Mustang GT, and supercharged Mustang GT to run quicker than 12.99, 11.99, and 10.99 e.t.s, respectively."

No doubt it will be a cash grab. 70k for the GT is just way too high. Sales won't be that great. If they could keep the price low enough it would sell really well.
The Toyota 86 proved that if you put a good price on a desirable model people will flock to it.

It will never be built outside the US. Flat Rock can fill both US and global demand with 2 shifts, and can go to a 3rd if demand is there.

$70k for a fully optioned auto GT Convertible would be ok I would think.

I agree with boss 70k is way too high. That means ~80k here in NZ and it will not sell. For it to sell here and do very well, (volume) It will need to be NZ 60-70K Maximum.

Very impressive that with basically a tune and exhaust the ecoboost is matching 335gt times... If ford do this right it could be an interesting few years watching the local scene evolve,

Agreed

$49,995 NZD for the Ecoboost (would then compete with the GT86)

$65,000 NZD for the GT

They would sell shed loads, above 70k and people will just continue to import S197's.

You can get a brand new Boss 302 LS for 75k on Trade Me

Even if it is a gutless engine when looking at a 4 Cylinder then id still go with GT86. It just seems right, even if the EB Mustang is quicker than most other cars getting around it just doesnt sit well with me.

What?

The mustang was an early entry into the 'Turbo era', with the SVO 4 pot. The mustang also gained DOHC V8's while the general still had pushrods.

I dont see how this one is any different...

Think the S197 Roush should feel very threatened about its place in the garage as of right now.
