Absolutely! Not arguing against that. We all in all of our jobs do what the client wants us to do so that we may get to do it again.
What I'm arguing with is the blatant disrespect shown to these people and many like them, because they have a different opinion, especially one based on exploration of real evidence.
The party line seems to be to attack them personaly rather than their findings, to use anecdotal evidence to refute them.
As you mentioned Lambert held an alternate finding. Assuming it to was peer reviewed and not just another quack pub expert all is good, but to move the debate forward more must be done and it would seem the haters are happier perfecting silly walks than pursuing the truth...unless deep down they actually know its not easy and they don't have the capabilities, unlike the Academics, but no, that couldn't be it because Academics, according to many here are muppets and a Muppet surely couldn't do something the average AFF expert could...could they!

Sorry, but selling your research soul to get your next grant buys no respect from me. His findings are no better than my silly walk.

It is because of clowns like this guy that I cannot trust the research you seem so happy to digest. What is "truth", and what is spun into a result the masters were after? No one knows. So I then fall back on good old common sense and make my own mind up.

Respect must be earned.

Its hard to respect an academic that produces a study which shows the majority of intersection crashes are due to pedestrians or drivers failing to give way, then concludes that what's needed is greater enforcement of 0-10kmh speed infringements with zero mention of enforcement measures directed against pedestrians or the drivers that fail to give way.

I don't think there is a blanket disrespect of academics on AFF. I assume most here can see the value brought by researchers in medicine, science, engineering etc.

However the topic at hand sees researchers funded by one specific group (governments) and it looks like their "research" is to justify specific policy like speed enforcement.

You make a valid point about rebutting their research with our own, I cannot find the raw data to even begin this process. I assume it would only be made to the researchers.

You are all being lead down the garden path

stopping distance -
s t o p p i n g d i s t a n c e -
S T O P P I N G OOPS CRASH -

http://www.auburn.nsw.gov.au/Explore...calculator.htm

it is your stopping distance you all should be talking not the
god damnation speed limit or some Academic study

them boys get paid regardless of what happens to you
if people gave a rats about safety they would do something
practical about it

like putting repeat drunk drivers permanently in the slammer

any dick weed can floor it on the straights

Ironically this "calculator" estimator does not take into account vehicle weight
tyre state? brake state vehicle model

you know in practical tests in the wet some good tyres stop a good 30 metres over other
crap ***** ones

You wanna talk practical over theoretical
find a quiet country road or race track you can do 110 on
I am sure there are some
somewhere in victoria with an even surface
haven't see that many
without Roos Cows pot holes or wombats

and slam then anchors let us know how yer faired

truth is you'd probably god damn kill yerself cross the median
spin
kill someone else
hit a tree or end up in a field
or down a steep rocky cliff

Even the force on your body stopping quickly when you
don't hit something is a real big ouch

I'm a little concerned that if this is how you end up when you hit the brakes hard you either can't drive or your cars are absolute crap! Or maybe both!

Have you ever been on a race track? The fact is that you brake to maximum hundreds of times per race with brakes and traction much better than any road car and it doesn't hurt a bit.

You are a big shot who knows how to drive if you know how to drive
you know how to pass someone safely with out getting your
knickers in a twist or having a "Road Rage incident
Don't you?

I'll drive at whatever speed I like
when I like within the limit
to the conditions

and if you don't like it buddy then tough

Floor it to 110 on a country road and stop
that is all I am sayin give it a crack

What you aint chicken are you?
You the advocate

So prove "your" theory

Buddy I know how to drive and speed is only one part of the equation

If you want to do 110km on wet greazy uneven roads
like nearly everyone I saw

Hey I sure as hell am not going to stop you
something or someone else might but it
will not be me I am the least of your worries
buddy

I am not qualified
They have people to take care of ya it is called the Ambulance Service

if you want to buy into the road safety BS
Mate it's your funeral not mine

I seriously enjoy my driving heaps of things to laugh at

Studies showed a few years back that a crash at anything over about 80kph which involved an "impact with a relatively solid immoveable object" was "basically unsurvivable". The human body just can't take that big a deceleration, even with crumple zones and air bags. Sure, some people walk away from 100kph-plus crashes, but there would have been many mitigating circumstances involved that would mean the forces are lower.

Hit a big tree, post, or rock wall at anything over 80 and what happens to you is in the lap of the gods.

The study's talking about 80k rain, hail or shine so unless there going to fit variable speed limits depending on the weather, the limit should be for good conditions and rely on driver training and experience to vary speed accordingly. You can't cater for the idiot factor cause the world just creates a dumber idiot.

The problem is thesedays everything is a business. Everything is controlled by how much money it can or cant make, and that fact even fuels alot of modern day research sadly enough. Have to focus on the topics or the results and agenda's that can make money for yourself and your backers.

Anyone driven anywhere outside of Melbourne lately? A lot of great roads are already 80 zones, some less. Black Spur, Great Ocean Road, Kinglake....... The list is a long one. It seems the more popular the road, the lower the limit.
The future is now people. He's already won.

The solution is simple ....ban 'others' from driving, that'll make the roads safe enough for me to speed.
Queensland has got the solution it seems

Great tech but just imagine looking up in the rear vision mirror and seeing that slab of destruction flying towards you!
I like the idea of the car/truck etc doing that but not sure I like the car/truck etc doing it for me.

This system is now available in Honda CRV and Accords. It's different to the ford city stop function as it works at high speed.

I walked away from a 90km/h accident, totalled my car but I t-boned the guy when he reversed across the freeway, I hit him in the far right lane, knocked him so hard he hit the trees on the left of the road in the grass.

I guess the saving grace was his car was free to move as it was just sideways on the middle of the road when I hit him, if it was both of us head on we'd probably be dead.

Though if he had a passenger they would have been toast for sure as thats the side I hit.

I always reckon that speed and condition of the road have little to do with prangs. The big factor is the drivers. Give them good training in the skill of driving coupled with developing a good attitude to sharing roads and we'll all be safer. Thats what I think.

The issue at hand here, would require rally driving training to simply concentrate on driver training.

This week
Saw someone face down on a pedestrian crossing
from a distance

Yep that's motorin for you all fun till you have to stop
and obviously people don't realise you have to stop sometimes
or what distance it takes to at - Any speed
40-60 80 or 110

Just a "real world" observation

Good thing we have an Ambulance Service that is who people should talk to re:

the speed limit

Can't see a problem with a 100km/h speed limit on a substandard road.

It is a MAXIMUM speed for that road, unfortunately we are so regulated that the current generation of drivers treats it as if it were the recommended speed for that road continuously.

It must be safe to do 100km/h if the gubberment puts the sign up eh?

darwinism i call it.....

Did you stop and help?

Nope Hell know (train to catch) that is what the ambulance is for
took the security dude 3 takes to realise it was a 000

Hell I take the train most days Falcon is For Fun
need an offroader next

people can take their "attitudes" and their "road rage" and "congestion etc"
and stick it where the sun don't shine honestly the average motorist
is a "total psycho"

and as for stopping there's no guarantee on that either
red light pedestrian crossing "most view that as optional" nowadays

green it is "safe" yeah right

ANyway next thing these city slicker ejucated Academics is going to do is tell me
how many chickens I can carry or not carry?

I used to have a chicken that liked the car
open the door and it would jump in Hilarious

Just sayin cos city folk is always trying to tell country folk how to live
and you need to take into account country roads are
chickn sh8t

any way nice talkin to you keep as far away from me on the roads
as you possibly can
