I presume you are a teacher? You sure that's what they say? No sarcasm levelled by the students?

As a teacher you would know well the status of dropping your child to school in a car that shows you can "afford stuff"...

How would a kid feel being dropped off in an old bomb when other parents drop their kids off in new Audi, BMW x5, Mercedes AMGs? Isn't that why kids wear uniform to stamp out the designer clothes kids from looking down on the kmart kids?

But it happens out in the carpark when parents drop them off

That's one of the main reasons why kids ask to be dropped off around the corner "I'll walk from here".

Cars are a status symbol, new cars, the more expensive the better. Don't Put your head in the sand, drive em up in your old EL falcon and watch them go red with embarrassment.

You know it's true

I do admire your attempt at supposed stoicism in the face of much criticism Hulk but do not pretend that your language is not insulting in intent. You are playing your game just as much as everyone else on this thread...

You would think who's this hobo, tell your daughter to get back inside the house and tell this bloke to rack off.

b). The bloke shows up in a brand new BMW, dressed well, shows you his bank statement with a good balance, you think this guy at least shows some respect. He might have a chance at winning your approval in due course.

Yes I know its tough but that's society, look the part or be left outside. Get a new car!!! It's a start

Bollocks

Most people I know buy a particular car because they like it and it suits their needs (some just because it suits their needs).

I couldn't give a toss what my neighbour/brother/cousin/friend buys and how new it is.

If someone I know buys what I consider a cool car, I will appreciate it and congratulate them.

If they own/buy a heap of crap, I just think good on them they have other priorities, each to their own.

He is right with people judging on first impressions, thats human nature, but lets throw a spanner in the works with the hypothetical

Whats if:

A) The raggy lookin' dude with the EL is an Anglo
B) The neat looking, well off guy with the new BMW is of Middle Eastern decent.

But the father is a racist?

I'm sure if the dude with the BMW ends up married chances are the BMW gets sold and he ends up driving a Kia Carnival 10 years later

Unfortunately it seems there is not much respect going our way from the old school brigade though.

The question is when does my "modern" become old school?
I heard this same complaint from a young fellow who liked a lot of old school music as well as the new stuff. He would say that although he liked the old stuff, he was constantly bagged out by older folk (me included) who just don't like the new.

I suppose your first love will always be your greatest, if that makes sense...

Even Hulk I6T will start bagging the generation following him and their tastes and values at some stage...

With the bloke turning up in his BMW showing off his car & bank statement will make me suspicious thinking the ***** is a pimp, he would be frogmarched off my premises quick & smart.

Hulk I honestly think you are too deluded with this Status image you have.

Hulk, when you were "dating" did you show your bank statement to Daddy?
AND do tell what model of car you picked your prospective beau(s) up in?

There's some truth here - I love my FG GT 335 but my wife says that we could have had a "nice BMW or Mercedes for the money we spent you know". I can only assume that her motives are status-related because it certainly wouldn't be performance-related. That doesn't make her shallow, just normal.

Hulk, I need your help! I'm going to be in the U.S. in a couple of months and I have to front up at a car show (think 3500-4000) cars.
At that show I will be mingling with owners of Hemi Cudas, early big block Vettes and genuine Cobra owners. Should I ignore them? Embarrassing plebs they are! What do I say to them? Because they would be feeling like crap already right??

Do I tell them they look stupid and should have bought a car that's a taxi that's used in Munich?? How would they react?

Maybe you could come with me but we wont tell anyone we are flying with a domestic carrier and not a private jet, because that would be embarrassing wouldn't it.

Grow up.

This is such an entertaining read for me, Whether this guy is for real or not... Seriously, they're cars.... cars!! Christ, if this Hulk is for real, mate you'd have to be pretty simple, I mean teenage schoolboys in their immaturity see cars as a status symbol!

These are the same age group who like testing how many times they can jerk off in a single day. I think that's pretty telling if you ask me
