Default Havr Kim Carr + Drive unwittingly dropped a bomb-shell?

http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...rticleID=64761

The last paragraph reads:

"Mr Carr said the government was also bidding to have the next-generation Camry — due in about 2012 — built here rather than in Thailand."

What on earth does that mean? Is there a chance the Camry as we know it could disappear in 2012? They already talk about building the Camry Hybrid here instead of importing it but this other statement is clearly about something totally different.

Im pretty sure that article is wrong. Ive heard nothing about Australian Camry production being halted.

What I have read the lobbying was over where the next gen Kluger will be produced.

And I certainly hope not, because Im just about sick of re-writing my bloody honours thesis for uni as it is, with Kim Carr rejigging the industry support packages.

With Camry being built in so many different countries, Toyota Australia have to put forward a business case for every new model they make. They are competing for the business with all the other countries. This has always been the case.

Its also the reason why they are the most vulnerable of the aussie manufacturers, because production of Camrys could basically be switched overnight to a foreign plant.
