Default Good Buy? Typhoon

Not sure if this had been posted or not.
I was just looking on carsales and found this F6 Typhoon low kms, Brembos, seems a good buy to me. It might be a member of the forum?

Looks great with the bulge. Super low kays. If I didn't already have one, I'd be right onto that. One of my favourite colours too. dark argents. brembos.

only problem is, she's an auto....

I saw that car 3 weeks ago. Asked the seller a few questions and his contact details, never heard back, so I figure he doesn't want to sell it.

I would be asking why it has a XR8/GT bonnet on it - accident ???? and why $29K with 22K on the clock - seems cheap to me and it is now out of warranty - it seems to have BA tail light on it but that could be the camera angle

if its legit its cheap but almost too cheap, i just sold my 05 BA F6 with 64K kms for a grand or so under that which i thought was fairly cheap.. no argents, no brembos either..
but then again nothing with ford or holden on the badge will ever hold its value , old school cars excepted

Just because it was written off previously doesnt mean its been in a horrific smash either.
Some of you need to look past the write off bit and then ask what was it written off for.
A simple Stolen/Recovered will be written off by most insurers - even if there is no damage and nothing is missing.

written off can mean near nothing, thats for sure. I bought a BMW motocycle for 25% of its non broken worth price from an auction just because of fairing damage and a few little scratches. Not a thing else. Plastic repairers fixed it and its as good as new.

What idiot puts a XR8 bonet on a F6?? Stupid!!

If it was in QLD Id be asking what had to be fixed. Some write offs are nothing but a dingle and it could be well worth just asking the question

It definately is worth asking the question.
Anyone that has nothing to hide will have all reciepts of repair, reciepts of parts, a VIV certificate, pictures of the car when biught from Auction, pictures of the damage, a quote to repair etc.

If they are unbecoming and not willing to produce any of these sorts of documents, thats when its time to walk away as there is something to hide - like excessive crash damage.

It's all about perception mate. Even if it was only minor damage, or a theft recovery and it was an otherwise perfect car, the fact it has "write off" tagged to it means you'd have a hard job selling it down the track IMO.

A lot of people , me included, wouldn't touch a repaired write off with a barge pole for that reason.

Wow he still hasn't sold this!

It was on carsales back in January, I checked it out and also found the repairable writeoff on Vic Roads.

From memory it only had minor front end damage, radiator suport panel replaced, bonet, intercooler replaced with a larger aftermarke one.

It was checked out by a ford dealer and given the ok, if it had leather it probably would have been sitting in my driveway!

Same reason why you do any vehicle mods...cos that's what the owner wants to do.

no worries mate - each to their own.

I'd still be very cautious about splashing 30K on it. I'd want to be absolutely certain regarding the damage and see all supporting documentation.

It's probably why it has been for sale for so long. Most people would be frightened off I reckon.

Well it looks better than a F6 bonnet on an XR8/GT

This car has been discussed on www.fordxr6turbo.com and this was the result of the damage we could find:
"Was written off in NSW on 31/01/07 as a repairable write off. But their systems are stricter, so the car was sold and moved to Melb.

Damage is listed as:

Driver and Passenger front - Heavy
Driver and Passenger side - light
Driver and Passenger rear - light
Engine - Major
Interior - Major - Most likely airbags

Sounds like it hit something hard, probably the car in front of it, and was lightly tail ended by the car behind it.

First attempted VIV was in the 23/05/07 and it failed. Receipts provided for FRONT CUT, front and rear bumpers, bonnet, boot, spoiler, cooler, radiators and some engine work. Reason for failure was that it required a structural repair report with full measurement because of the front cut and airbag light still on.

Car passed VIV on 31/05/07, which is when it was reregistered, and obviously when the rego runs out. Which is a week away, not August as the ad states.

So probably good for a cheapie, but has a bad past. "

Unless you are going to strip it and use it for a DBA540, I would not touch it.

Its not even that cheap.

I got my 2006 BF F6 with ZF and 60,000 on the clock for $35,000 drive away from a dealer with a warranty. Mine has full service history and has never been a write off.
