Default Windsor 302 Cylinder Heads.

Hi Guys.....On the older engines, I am interested to know the difference in compression ratio of the closed chamber compared with the open design.
There is obviously a diffence in chamber volume.

Hi the,
two links to get you on your way

1. Compression ratio calculator. http://www.wallaceracing.com/cr_test2.php

2. Ford cylinder head data heaps of them. https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-te...sting-numbers/

That because many of the Windsor heads don’t make much power unless heavily ported
and then you risk hitting either oil or water…

David Vizard has done quite a few videos on porting SBC and SBF.
Years ago, he ported a 289 and got phenomenal power out of the thing

Most people now go aftermarket with either AFR or TFS Twisted Wedge (beautiful) as they
Unlock a ton of power in the Windsors. One of the agonies of a 347 is the amount you have
to spend just to equal what a GM LS 5.3 truck motor can put out with just a cam and good headers.

Yes, Tom Moss did a lot of good research work on those heads, I followed his guidelines,
Porting some GT40P heads for my 302, milled them 0.30” and got a nice bump in compression
in my EB, feels nice in a mildly modified 5.0 but if you’re chasing really good power, those
TFS 11R twisted wedge heads are almost essential if you’re gong 347 stroker route…
Many guys on here have experience with them and can attest to the performance.
