Ive been waiting for this announcement for months. Its exactly as I was expecting but not what I wished for. As happy as I've been with my Ranger I can finally update to a new car however unfortunately it won't be another. 80k for 157kw, yeah nah..
Im as pro Ford as they come but seriously if you're excited by this i can only imagine you never had any intention of buying one. I don't know anyone (people who actually wanted one) whose still excited about it now. Last edited by FlipXW; 08-02-2018 at 09:43 PM. |

kW ratings are not really relevant with diesels in heavy trucks. But you knew that right? An F-150 Raptor huh? and where exactly do you get one of those if you don't live in the US?

Falcons and Mustangs are petrol powered. A completely different animal. They start making power at mid range 3500-4000rpm.... hence hp figures are important. Revving a diesel past 4000rpm is like ****ing into the wind.... if you haven't grabbed another gear before then you will start rolling backwards

I've seen a couple around Melbourne. I'm betting they'd be a little more pricey than what many might think.

(That was sarcasm. A ranger is a ute/pickup, not a truck)

Heavier vehicles suddenly got better mpg, and better driveability to cover bulk distance. The smaller raptor truck would be super cool if it had a supercharged coyote... but the Aussie bloke who wants to cover big distance on our rough interstate and outback roads wants RANGE and COMFORT.... which the smaller diesel, matched with the 10 speed and that chassis, should deliver in spades

There's a fair bit of mixed opinions on here since the launch, personally I have no interest in any 4x2 or 4x4 utes so my opinion is irrelevant, might be interesting to have a poll though for those who are inclined and see who would or would not buy one now.

From the above article.
“ Throughout the loop, the Raptor averages close to twice the speed of the regular Ranger “ Fark!

This would be akin to offering F150 Raptor with only a 3.0 V6 diesel, nice truck but hardly what people expect...
Mind you, armchair experts are often wrong about lots of things, so I hope Ford sells a bunch of them. |

I'm prepared to accept that Ford is chasing a broader range of buyers than my narrow field of vision, perhaps there's a big pool of buyers sitting there waiting for these exact trucks as delivered by Ford. The presence and acceptance of Colorado ZR2 and its diesel engine is probably proof/justification for Ranger Raptor going the HP diesel route with the added benefit of that wonderful 10-speed auto. |

The engine aside, they obviously have done a lot of work with chassis and suspension ect to justify a premium price. It’s pretty obvious, that it’s more than a sticker pack that a lot were saying it would be !!!

Its a hard pill to swallow that a "RAPTOR" ute is a four banger. With the Mustang it was OK because customers have a choice. Theres more to performance than pure numbers. Performance feel is just as important.

Ford probably made a mistake calling it a Raptor and then delivering what is a baby raptor when compared to the F150. I wonder if a lot of the butt hurt exhibited in this thread is due to that comparison.

i love this line "“I am sure there will be drivers who have their obsessions,” says Damien. “But when they get in this vehicle and drive it – and they don’t have another one to drive anyway, so they’re kind of pre-dispositioned – it won’t matter because they can’t go and buy somebody else’s version of Raptor. And so they’ll get in and they will just be blown away by what it does.”
its the old ford attitude you get what we want when we want and if you dont like it stiff |

They can be had for 90k now. Look at the torque figure then. 500nm The same as the standard Colorado, or 50 less than Amarok. Not impressive either way |

500Nm through a 10 speed will ***t on anything out there atm. The current ranger will be laughable in comparison no matter how good you think your standard run of the mill Ranger/Isuzu/Colorado etc is - no comparison.
It’s an off-road 4wd ute FFS, it’s not a mustang/FPV/Sprint road car. A 210 hp diesel running through a 10 speed is smart imo. Why would you want more? All ya going to do is burn fuel on the highway. I’ve got 2 jet skis - the seadoo is 20 yrs old this year and I’ve had it since new. It runs a 2 stroke 1000cc /130hp. The Yamaha is an 1800cc 4 stroke supercharged 210hp, the old man runs the 300hp kawa, the difference - sweet F-all really at the end of the day on the water regarding performance apart from fuel, unless you’re pulling 2 skiers out of the deep. Bigger is not always best. Like the F6 Vs the XR6T - nothing in it. A 4.0 litre I6T Vs a 5.0 litre V8, nothing in it. One thing the ‘baby’ raptor has got over it’s bigger brother is a coil rear, the big F-150 runs a leaf rear. I know what I’d rather. As has been mentioned by others already - wait for the journos to thrash it, I think people may start thinking out of their ‘box’ mentality. One thing this will do is give some of the aftermarket mobs a great platform for the V8 conversion, and imo will be a total waste of money. Some moron will put an LS3 in one and think they’ve got something special |

As for the V8 Prado ...... no Shyte Sherlock - 2004 ‘100’ series petrol. Thought you’d pick that, obviously not lmao. So ‘you see’ perhaps everyone having 2 diesels in their garage like yourself could be the reason why we always see diesels. Would be more to the truth than the towing element. Edit - send me a pic of the V8 Prado ‘lexus’ version. |

I can not believe anyone would compare it to a truck engine. I suspect a lot will go BANG after only a short time after warranty runs out. At least there will be plenty of spare parts available.

Could do - highly doubt it imo. It’s been abused beyond anything you or I would do to it and it’s been fine. The safety margins of that motor would see it last a long time. Time will tell though.
