Mine's there for entertainment value only. whenever I fill up, it claims 300km to empty. When I get to around 450k mark, the light comes on and tells me I have 20k left. I fill up to find I had a spare 20 odd litres kicking around. AU ute - dedicated gas. Been like that for a couple of years, had it looked at by a couple of workshops, but no solution.

Heres an important factor to consider- those with late model falcons (BA BF, FG) try cruising as economically as you can on a long straight road, i.e. not in town and you will notice that your trip meter may say "430 KM" but if you drive carefully, it'll increase or not decrease at the same rate as your milage increases.
Basically from what I can tell, it seems to calculate the remaining milage according to your driving style. Kick it in the guts and use lower gears at high speed and it will recognise the change in consumption and adjust accordingly. I foolishly forgot to fill the car in West Wyalong today, tank read empty about 49 kms outside of Griffith but I got there no probs...hate that though!

They should come with a "time to understand " gauge.

Mine used to say 0-km when it was at a qauter of a tank. So I ran it till it cut out twice at the servo and now when it says 20kays to empty it means it! But I usually only run it to a quater and then fill it up which is about 80kays. I hate getting into the car when it's under 80km to empty and having the car beep at you and seeing the fuel gauge so low! BAH!... ANyway yeah thats on an AUI Fairmont.

1... on an E-gasser!!!
From my own testing, I've found that when it gets that low, the tank still has around 8-10L left in her. |
