When i lived in brissy about 6 years ago though, i had a v8 ed that would ping like crazy on caltex vortex 95 from wollies at woodridge but ran fine on 95 vortex from caltex servos. that was over about a 1 1/2 years tring it on and off. only use mobile 91 and bp 98 these days.

Woolies fuel for me. Don't think the tanks at the servos I go to would be old enough to be a cause for concern. It's all brewed at Caltex refinery anyway.

Ok cool it looks like it's not just woolies it's any servo that don't look after their tanks.

But in my old WRX and my wife's WRX, I found that BP Ultimate was better to run on. Both WRX had been tuned to Vortex but I had them both retuned for Ultimate as they ran smoother with Ultimate. Wouldn't touch the Shell stuff at all. In my XR50, I haven't noticed any difference between Ultimate and Vortex 98. My car has only done 4000k so once the k's get a bit higher, I'll experiment between the 2 fuels.

I will never use Woolies petrol, on the simple fact that they screw everyday Aussies left right and centre. They do not get a cent from my pay packet, petrol wise, food wise and alcohol wise.

I haven't had a problem with Woolies Vortex 98 octane at both outlets in Albury. But they have changed to Vortex 95 with no option of 98, so now I use BP or Shell or Mobil.

I used to use woolies fuel in my daily until i stopped using the car a month back. My turbo only gets Shell V Power nowadays. I sometimes use BP Ultimate when I'm desperate as i hate going to the local BP, the fuel bowsers are always covered in oily crap, not to mention the staff are all slow and lazy!!

After finding out that Woolies LPG was clogging up my LPG converter over time (as that's what I pretty much filled up with all the time due to price) ... I choose not to fill at one when it comes to LPG.

I am surprised at some of the comments here. Fuels in Australia are monitored by the Australian Government under the Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000 (see http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosp...ds/index.html).

http://www.environment.gov.au/atmosp...ent/index.html If you believe there is a specific case of poor fuel quality, rather than whinging about it in the forum, how about making a formal complaint to the Commonwealth inspectors? |

I only ever fill up at Caltex branded servo's (not Woolies) or BP. Usually 98 unless i catch it on the wrong day, then I'll grab half a tank to get me by or just use 95.
Also used to occasionally go to Mobil but not since they re-branded them all as 7/11. I know its stupid as its the same fuel and tanks, but I dont feel comfortable buying fuel from a place where it would appear that fuel is not their priority (convenience store first, servo second).

Caltex 91 is the worse and for some reason 95 is not good in SEQ and to me it's a fact. all these cars are STD, a VS v6 auto pings when you up it. and my VS V6 manual i could not get it over 200km/h and it could do 218 km/h on any other. VS 179kwV8 manual lacked power on any 91 fuel. VY SS lacks power if using it to. but my XG longreach loved it, go figure.
It has noting to do with water in it but something is different for sure and i will not use it in summer at all. but if it was good i would use it esp with the 8c off but not even that could get me to use it as i can't stand the way the car performs using it. |

not sure if this info is correct ,but when speaking to a local ford dealer in brisbane i was told that mobil didnt have there own plant here and were buying fuel from the other plants,i know that after using bp for the first 3years of our bf fpv's we switched to caltex and almost immediatly got an extra 50 k's from a tank ,still run the factory fuel filters that came with the car ,have never had to change it and the s/p ute has done 120 k the gt only 40k,both have never missed a beat and still get excellant mileage...doc

Whilst a lot of fuel is refined here, a lot is also imported.
There are two refineries in Victoria - Shell in Geelong and Mobil in Altona. All locally sourced fuel, for all suppliers regardless of brand, is from one of these two refineries in Vic.

The same issues has occurred with me across 2 egas Falcons: * My BFII egas sedan. Filled up with WW LPG, car didn’t run right (down on power and increased fuel consumption). Was surprised to find wax coming out of the converter drain after only just 1 tank of WW LPG! * Same issue as above with the old mans AUIII egas ute. Wax builds up in the converter when run on WW LPG. Both cars now use BP LPG (I exclusively use BP, and won’t use any other brand unless absolutely necessary. Even then I’ll only put 10-15L of fuel in, enough to get me to the nearest BP station. Unfortunately Mobil appears to have rebadged all their stations to 7-11. Unsure who supplies these rebranded 7-11 station). No issues what so ever. The converter never builds up wax (even after 30000km of driving), and both cars run smoothly and gain better mileage using BP LPG. |

So Saber, instead of being one of great anonymous internet forum users, it would be helpful if you actually put a location in so we know what part of this country you’re talking about.
