The cost of closing down Geelong engine, castings plant, frame works, closing down Broadmeadows and engineering Taurus for Australia exceeds the cost of the $103 million just announced for next Falcon update... That is what has always saved Falcon's bacon, the cost of evolution is less than complete change... Look at AU and the roll in to BA, look at BF and the roll into FG. Changes yes but lots of continuing common or slightly changed parts. Last edited by jpd80; 12-01-2012 at 08:45 PM. |

the next on CD4 holds a lot of promise but that one isn't quite confirmed.... Ford are looking at how their large cars merge but everyone is looking at only one option. Scales of economy, do we use EUCD/CD4 for Taurus and Falcon or do we go with Mustang, Taurus and Falcon? It all hinges on the value placed upon a current business study...nobody has mentioned China and their big car needs.... |

Falcon has just been confirmed until at least the end of 2016, (that's actually five years absolute minimum) and FPV sales are up nearly 50% for the year compared to 2010, (when large cars are in decline). Ecoboost is due presently which should give a valuable lift to Falcon sales.
IMO Its time for all FPV enthusiasts to put their feet up, relax, smile and take a nice long rest from all the negativity and speculation, my 2 cents. |

hasn't ford america managed to stay out of the crapper a little bit ,which hopefully should filter on to us in ozz.unlike gm a gmh which seems to be a global problem with their finance, although sales arnt as high as gm/gmh,there hasn't been too much panic in the ford ranks..

they are to be congratulations on such a gutsy move with S/C 5.0. I hope they now go from strength to strength building on success. Quote:

Well Miami should see them out for what, another 5 years and a MINIMUM...so when you break down that $40M its not so bad.
Then you look at the I6T..thats around for about the same period and it will need little work done other than emissions perhaps, and Ford generally helps out there anyway. So thats 5 years on spending on the things that perhaps are lacking now, just little details to round off the package.

Seeing as everyone has a crystal ball, I have looked into the pool of foresight and I see Ford will go 100% imports by the end of the FG life cycle. After that there will be no Ford made in Australia at all.

FPV will not last even if Falcon does survive... Look how long Prodrive kept TRD going with its poor sales (very short period of time). Theres too many dramas in the camp sadly, there's no happy medium between Ford and FPV...

Dash - We're on a roll with good news, the confirmation of Falcon funding of $103m, and the really positive sales increase for FPV. I know the FPV sales increase was off a new engine and a lack of V8 build the year before but still we are in exceptionally challanging financial times so the sales result needs to be viewed in the context of that fact too and that makes it a stellar sales result IMO.
Bottom line is it was a really gutsy move by FPV spending that sort of money on a locally developed supercharged engine and strengthened gearbox, a development process that took place during the height of the global financial crisis storm and while we're debating this, lets get real, it would have been so much cheaper to just fit a NA 5.0 but they had the guts to spend the money and therefore they deserve credit for that. There are no cast iron guarantee's in life and nobody can predict the future with 100% certainty but the outlook is certainly looking brighter. Surely this is a time for happy thoughts Last edited by Rodge; 13-01-2012 at 06:56 PM. |

We might lose FPV but may gain the global corp. speacial vehicles name that'll sell all performace cars from around the world.
ie/ RS Fiesta/Focus, When mustang goes global, Some of those wild, tricked up yanky utes, maybe tickle the Mondeo. etc |

FPV need to release a 525hp version of the Miami engine by 3/4 of 2013 if they are not to get caught with their pants down. They shouldn't wait for Ford to provide them with a stronger rear-end - FPV need to bite the bullet and do a unique rear end themselves. This will allow more power to be unleashed and wider rubber to be fitted to all FPV models.

Yeah it would be nice for FPV/Ford to be proactive rather than reactive. Both brands need to come out swinging to make the most of this time.

If Falcon goes, so does FPV. They have already stated they will not modify existing imported Ford vehicles. They will only modify locally built models.
Team RS/SVT do the imported stuff. |
