Cast iron is no impediment to passing future emissions regs anyway. Plenty of cast iron diesel engines out there, and Euro 5 is not a problem for I6.

Its a myth that a cast iron block will kill I6, it will be the cost of development that will.

Imagine the I6 in alloy though...


Ford have been working on CGI, a type of iron that is as light, if not lighter then most alloys, but maintains strength and is low in cost.

Am i correct?

The Territory diesel has a CGI block.

Unlikely for FoA as it would require a significant upgrade of the casting plant to be able to do CGI, but it would be nice to remove 20-30kg of metal off the front end.
