My aunty lived in London for 10 years and never drove a car once.
They do have pretty good public transport, apparently.

You don't need to drive in European cities because of the public transport. The situation is totally the opposite in Australia. Guess which cities work better, are more productive and nicer to live in - the ones with public transport or the ones without?

Unfortunately guess where the road safety nanny culture and revenue-based "safety measures" comes from - the UK. They didn't just dream it up in Australia. Funnily enough, in continental Europe where they don't have official nannies the road toll is about the same pro rata, which rather challenges the rationale. But I guess the revenue earned by govts from this "industry" is less on the continent, silly them.

Yeah can't disagree there either. There are complete and utter morons driving around WA. Maybe half to be on the safe side.

Another little "culture shock" here on the continent is that you need to own two sets of tyres for your car - general and winter. Next week being November our car is required to go off for its winter tyres to be fitted:

I hear they're getting rid of speed cameras in some areas in England...maybe that will catch on here too?

My nephew lives in Edinburgh...married a lovely Scottish lass and has a couple of great kids. He sent me a picture on Facebook one winter a year or two ago of his LHD Renault (they went on a long weekend holiday to "the continent" and picked it up for many thousands less than they would have in Blighty), and said "Here's my car parked outside the house".

Well...there was a slight swelling in the several feet thick blanket of snow that was probably where his car was parked, that's all I can say...

He mentioned the whole "putting it in to fit the snow tyres" thing as well.
