We went from a Falcon to a Focus, upto a Mondeo. Focus was way too small.
I also upgraded in size from my trailer. I went to a ute

BA 6 -> BF2 XR8 -> Focus XR5T
Best decision I ever made maintenance, insurance and fuel costs have all dropped. Fun factor increased.

Currently country and western sydney based at the moment and so far my Falcon has proved a faithful companion to and fro on the highways.
However, it looks like a very real possibility that i will be relocating towards and working within the CBD. Public transport aside (barf) i would still like to drive in and out of work as the need calls. Falcon with its fuel costs and size just aint gona cut it. Tried convincing myself otherwise, but trying to remain realistic. Have spoken with the other half (who currently has a new i30) and we agreed that we still want at least 1 performance car in the garage but also agreed that the falcon may not fit the bill. Pending a few test drives, a Focus ST (in white or blue) will be on the cards. Another option that we are looking at is the subaru wrx sedan - overpriced and cheaply built but is a cracker of a drive. Ultimately not a ford which is appearing to be my biggest hurdle but the mrs is in love with it. Will still look at having a v8 for shed duties in the future if i do end up downsizing.

I went from a fairly modified MY99 WRX to the XR50. Had the WRX for 11 years. Prior to the WRX, I had a Liberty RS for about 4 years.
Whilst my rego went up (6 cyl vs 4 cyl) by about $150, my insurance dropped by about $350. Fuel usuage is about the same. Maintenance is waaaay cheaper. I'm glad I upsized

Yeah we downsized the missus car just today. We went from a 2005 Territory Ghia to a brand new Kia Optima Platinum with all the fruit.
With the kids getting older it made sense no longer having the gas guzzling Terri and we couldnt be happier with the Optima. For the price its awesome value and with 5 years warranty how could we resist??

We haven't downsized yet.
Have a BF XR6 ute and a MA Mondeo but are considering dumping both and getting a Ranger Dual Cab 4x4. I have a GT Cortina if I want a little fang. Registration in Qld is fast becoming ridiculously high. |

Once...we went down to a 1979 Holden Gemini, but then upsized to a '79 UC Sunbird, then stepped up to a VK Calais, then upsized again to the XC-update Fairmont GXL. Been "big" cars since then including the biggest, a 100 series Landcruiser.
Next year we'll be "upsizing" from the G6E to either a Toyota FJ Cruiser or a Nissan Patrol. There's only really two of us now with the kids grown and moved away, but it's nice to have some space for when the kids and grandkids visit and we want to go somewhere in the one vehicle like we used to with the 100 series Landcruiser... If we want to "downsize" we take the Celica for a drive, as we did today to do some shopping over in Emerald. Of course, it does actually use more fuel than the G6E...but that's thirty years of technology for ya... |

Even if I WANTED too, I can't downsize. Being 6 foot 6 inches wipes out all options below large cars purely for comfort and enough space for limbs and feet etc. I've heard my share of, "but small cars now have so much more room...". They do, except for someone with height! Even the spacious medium large car market, doesn't produce a car large enough in all the necessary place to be comfortable.
So I will stick with my large sedans (preferably with a Turbo strapped on), spend more on fuel and love every minute of it!

Had a Corolla before the blue BF, never regretted the change.
(apart from the extra weight tax that Ms Keneally last labor premier NSW whacked onto the rego) |

"Downsized" from a AU Fairmont Ghia to a MC Mondeo Zetec Ecoboost earlier this year. Mondeo is actually larger in all directions except overall length. Hell, even has more room behind the wheel than the current Falcon - at 6'5" with proportionate build I have to dislocate my left knee to get behind the wheel of an FG, no such problems with the Mondeo. Mondeo gets up and moves along quite well in that clinical teutonic way, I take the RS2000 out for a run when I want to get that full body smile going |

I'm happy with the fuel ecconomy both my AUs get. Its the way you drive them. rego might be dearer but i'm happy with them. they do the job and i feel safe and confident when it comes too overtaking with them. my missus went from a TN Magna too a N16 Pulsar. Its alot better on fuel and its quicker. while it might get a better fuel ecconomy then my AU sedan. I'd still would rather take the 6 cylinder on a long trip. the AU has a longer fuel tank range. I'd rather spend a few extra dollars then be having too stop too fill the 39L tank the pulsars got. plus the bigger falcons more confident when it comes too highway driving. the extra power and torque is great!!!

Camry to a VZ Calais to a SR Hilux to a G6E. No downsizing here and next up is either the VF, Territory or the new Falcon

I prefer my big cars, smallest car i have ever owned was a HX premier, will be giving the Mrs the territory soon and getting a VZ crewman or Hilux 4x4 soon so that is sort of downsizing.
Not to say I do not like Golfs, i do they drive great, but ive seen what happens when a small car and a big car meet in a accident.

Went from a 347ci AUII XR8 to the Pug and I tell you what the Pug is 10x times more fun to drive. Next will have to be a little bigger though for the little bloke, I'm thinking perhaps something with 2 more doors and 1 more cylinder.
