There is no conversion cost, they are built from factory in both LHD and RHD.

I expect to pay more in Australia compared to USA, but not as much as we do have to pay.

Just a shame it won't have a glorious high rpm straight 6 or V8.

A turbo V6, pfftt. Might go like stink but it's not a true M engine.

What planet re you on? There is no conversion. BMW build RHD cars in Germany for the UK and Aus market and have done for 40 or 50 years. They also build RHD and LHD in South Africa. And transport by ship cost very little these days.

Prices are set based on what market is prepared to pay - there is no shortage of sales for BMW in Australia even though their cars are overpriced for what they are.

I read on the rumourweb that the engine will rev around 8 grand still. It will have an NA driving experience apparently.

Obviously BMW are replacing the 3 series coupe with the 4 series.

I have to say I like it. Not a fan though of the integrated exhausts in the bumper and obviously I wouldn't go a tan color interior but I do like it.
Can't wait for the M version.

Thanks.
Looks great. Love the rear end, integrated exhausts are the way to go.

It will be a variation on the N54 (3.0 litre straight 6 with at least 2 turbos) and it has been fitted to the 1 series M coupe.

Not a true M engine? A lot of manufacturers are shifting from high revving N/A's to turbos nowdays. There were rumours that BMW had to nobble the old E92 335 (open diff and other things) so that it's performance wasn't too close to the V8 M3.

Fender vents look better on the new M4 and the straight horizontal bonnet shut line is bothering me less and less.

Very true, go to a turner with a 335i and see how much power they can safely extract from the engine without doing any modification. 30-60 RWKW, has been what I've seen. Even the brand new 320I with the low spec 2.0 turbo are getting 30 extra RWKW after a tune.

Conversion to RHD?

So do you think these cars are all built LHD and converted afterwards to RHD? You would be wrong.

Best check the price in the UK if you think RHD has much to do with the cost of cars in this country.

Where have you read that its going to be a Turbo V6? I heard those rumors a while ago but the latest speculation is that it'll go back to an inline 6.

Looking pass the colour, that M4 is one beautiful car to me.

Just needs a 2 inch drop.

Yeah your right, don't know what I was thinking there. Of course a BMW would use a straight 6. But I still stand by the claim that it's still no replacement for a proper M engine like a 3.2 litre M3 CSL engine or the current V8. Turbos are just becoming so ho-hum. Just not as special as a high rpm M screamer.

The CSL engine had the most glorious metallic sound I've ever heard when pulling 8000 rpm. Spine chilling.

There were rumors a while back that they were going to go V6, but thank god they haven't.

I agree with you though, M division are moving away from their old values but to be fair they don't really have a choice with modern market demands and regs.

Interesting article here by Aussie ex-pat Angus MacKenzie;

That CSL engine is one of my favourite engines, the note is spine chilling. I often 'youtube' it get my fix

I think in the pursuit of economy/emissions, many car companies, BMW in particular, are ruining their what their brand stands for. Whilst their new turbo engines (I4, I6, V8) are great, there was something special about a wailing BMW engine at high revs.

Oh dear. Rumours on Yank websites are that the new M4 will be automatic only. While the DCT is a nice auto but still.....

Is it really a surprise if it happens, even the 911 GT3 is dual clutch, and who would have thought it would ever come without a manual?
