I spent $3,500 to get 308rwkw and a 12.0 sec time slip. I could have done it cheaper if i had just done the cat and not the whole system.

V8s sound great but on the other hand an I6T with a turbo side intake at full song sounds incredible, like a jet taking off, I love it. But they are a license shredder.
One thing that bugged me about the XR8 is its front-heavy feeling, you ideally need to do a battery relocation to the boot and firm up the front end to make them feel right. |

On every front besides sound the XR6T is the better car, Std to Fully modified and anywhere inbetween the Xr6T will get more Rwkw for far less money.
In saying that i love my XR8, with all the upgrades it sounds great, gets decent economy and goes pretty well for what it is. If you need more later on there are always solutions from companies like Harrop, Kenne Bell and Co. |

If I could go back in time, I would still get an XR8 and spend $5k on mods and be completely happy with 260 odd rwkw. For me it's not just about a bunch of figures on a piece of paper, it's about the whole experience.

Bingo, people get too wrapped up in dyno sheets and quarter mile times to realise that they're completely missing the point if the car doesn't put a smile on your face when you drive it!!!

For a unmodified (unopened) street car I would go the V8 with a exhaust and a tune, sounds good and has enough power to get to the shops.
Reason being, in my case anyway, its so easy to make big power with a turbo that you will keep playing with it, and a badly tuned or fuel starved turbo will lunch itself where as the NA V8 will fair a great deal better. And then if you really need to go faster in the V8 strap on a super charger or a couple of turbos. The old addage works for boosted engines as well, "there is no replacement for displacement" I like this > http://www.capa.com.au/kits_ford_ba_xr8.htm And for dyno results, I take them with a grain of salt, a dyno is a tuning tool nothing more, the only way to find out how much REAL POWER you make it at the drag strip. Lets face it, if your spending coin on performance modifications you want to see that improvement on the black top, Ive smoked lots of cars on the track and the strip that have claimed to have alot more "dyno" power than my old boat, pity their huge dyno adjusted horse power was made in the last 2k rpm before they ran out of revs. Last edited by MLR; 14-03-2013 at 07:17 PM. |

As for being a hand grenade- i ran a generic tune at 7,000km, then changed to a cutom tune at 100,000km. She is still going at 182,000km, won 2 super street drag championships, done over 60 hard laps of Baskerville, over 30 at Symmons plains, towed a discovery series 2 home form the east coast of Tas (300km of big hills)..... they are not really a grenade!

As per usual, people are pushing the cars they own.
Drive both, and then make a decision... Don't base your decision on what someone with completely different requirements/taste says. |

Buy what you want.
I loved Bathurst and V8s and had always wanted one and finally got one. Even after a year and a half, still running stock stereo speakers but a mp3 stereo. Hardly turn it up due to the sound of the V8. People can state numbers, dynos, mods, costs etc but in the end just buy what ya heart is set on.

Drive both and see what floats your boat.
For me I've got the V8 bug. Driven turbos and nice enough but no interest in owning one at all. My Xr8 can get a smile from me just by looking at it, then start it with the Herrod exhaust and I'm in heaven. A turbo would just be transport to me regardless of how fast it is.

Yeah I still have to drive a Manuel turbo before I make my decision but I have always wanted a V8 is it true it's a engine out job just to do the exhaust?

Are you really set on a manual mate? If your going a BF then try out the ZF 6 speed auto. Great box and not as sloppy and grindy as the manual

Id say depends if you are a cruiser or a street racer, the V8 will turn heads just going slowly over speed bump, the turbo will turn heads at full noise! but the reaction may not always be good..

I think every man who says they love cars, needs to own a V8 at least once in their life time.
There's something about the BA/F XR8s. Yeap sure, they're not the quickest, we get it. But there's something about the way it drives, it sounds, it looks. And, lets not be silly - the BOSS delivers when you need it to. Here's that opportunity. The head might say Turbo, but the heart says V8. Get the XR8 and save the XR6T for when the Mrs. says, you need something more practical.

I absolutely love V8's, nothing beats that sound but take a turbo for a drive and you'll never consider a V8 again. There is nothing like the feeling you get when the turbo kicks in, it's addictive.

If you want a GREAT cruiser go the xr8
If your looking at mods, xr6t is excellent bang for bucks Stock the xr8 feels better but a few mods turbo can be ferocious |

Going from xr8 to xr6 turbo the one thing I miss was going out to the shed and just firing the v8 up just to listen to it idle, you won't do that in ya turbo
