We should be lucky we're even getting the Mustang in RHD. The facts are most of the world is LHD, and 2 of the major RHD markets in the world - UK and Japan - still allow LHD models.

I read the other day that Nissan Australia had to pay for RHD engineering and development on the Y62 Nissan Patrol, because headoffice wasnt interested.

Why don't you all write to Ford or get one of those petition things going to convince them there is a market for it in Australia?

Problem is where Ranger is priced, the optioned up F series will be up near the $100K+ mark. Makes me wonder why they even bothered with Ranger when they had F150 redesign around the corner? |

F150 wouldn't sell like Ranger in less developed countries.

They are close to each other in size, if they spent the money used for development on the Ranger on the F150, you could probably have more engine choices, smaller engines for those less developed countries like they tend to have.
I don't believe in Hilux/Colorado sized utes, claim they can seat 4 people, with their tiny back seat, has a tiny rear load area and they claim they can tow 3500kg, so does my GMC Sierra and its got an engine over twice the capacity with nearly 200nm more torque and a heavy duty chassis. Thats probably why you see the dual cab ute brigade doing 80km/h with a big caravan behind it holding everyone up. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 15-01-2014 at 08:30 AM. |

God forbid a company do what's in it's best interests? Ford is an American company first and foremost. They owe nothing to no country, Australia included. The only people they need to answer to is investors (investers like me, and I'm damn happy with their business model and direction).

Ranger is for middle class normal owners......F150 and bigger for quite well off or even rich......100k is ALOTTA money for a V6 twin cab ute.
Unless they can sell them cheaper over here already converted? They'd have to do the numbers......Probably would add up with so much engineering required. I think they would sell for though for the Horsey/Rodeo/Country crowd up North. |

Seriously though how many would buy a F150 here? I doubt they would do 1500-2000 sales a month.

If they are building 60k a month, its really not worth your effort to distrupt an already flat out production line for maybe 500 RHD models.

You investors won't have a return on your investment without customers like me. If you are doing a ground up redesign, wouldn't it make sense to spend the extra bit there and then to make it RHD friendly? Or kick off RHD production in their beloved Thailand? |

Which of these countries is going to buy enough to justify the RHD development?

That's why Aus should have switched to the right side when contemplating it back in the 60s. No point sticking with England. They barely have an auto industry anymore, but I guess it was a different outlook back then. Now with globalization, it doesn't make sense having these trade barriers anymore.

Probably the one we're both sitting in now? If you had a choice of Ranger or F150 at similar prices which one would you pick? It wouldn't be the Ranger would it? We can't buy what they don't sell so how can you say it won't sell? What's an extra few million on top of an already huge development cost? If its a "ground up" redesign I'm sure you could justify the.development costs to make it RHD friendly. Wasn't the FG designed LHD friendly? What was the point in that then? |

You don't think Australians are paying more for cars because of the trade barriers? The F150 thing... that's just one of the negatives. If governments make selling cars easier, they will not only sell them, but for less money.

It's like the RTV all over again, everyone says they'll buy one - but we all know they won't. Ford aren't silly, if the F150 could sell in decent numbers in RHD form it would be joining the Mustang. And even the RHD Mustang venture isn't projected to set the world alight. After years and years of reading "if only Ford built the Mustang in RHD I'd buy one yesterday" on these forums it will be interesting to see how many actually follow though. |

Gees it is VERY impressive with the ALL ALUMINIUM body now. Less weight, more tow capacity, better economy.
And maybe instead of RHD conversion any aussies that want one can just get a LHD license...Seen plenty of U.S classics still LHD lately. I am sure they have changed some laws recently??? |

That's just bad business. A RHD F150 business case needs to stand on it's on feet, not rely on cutting in to the profits of the best selling vehicle in North America if it flops (which I reckon it would). |

How many people are buying dual cab utes these days as transport?
Also that company in QLD doing F250/350 compliancing is preparing to do 600a year (at $130K each). Ranger is 90% of the size of the F150 as well. How can you know how successful it will be if it was never sold here? I saw new Ecoboost F150 for sale by Harrison Motoring Group at Elmore Field Day last year @ $136,000, they're our local F series specialist. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 18-01-2014 at 02:51 PM. |
