Most dual-cab owners drive like that. I was nearly rear ended by an Amarok this morning as I slowed down for an amber traffic light and he swung around me an floored it through the intersection.

Another thing to consider is if you have young kids in baby capsules or other child restraint seats. Some of the may not take 3 seats across the back seat as they don't have the anchor points.

my brother has a 2015 hilux sr5 3.0td and he hates it, he prefers a triton over it.
its down on power and handles like a wet noodle, the back seat is cramped, steering is vague and its slow but does ok on the freeway my mate has a 2015 triton glx-r 2.5 td and it feels quick, but still handles like the hilux but $15k less i saw this clip the other day, its old now but they guy has new clips on the new utes coming out now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RT0ELW6qRxo

A base 1987 66kw carburettor Camry has similar performance of around 11-12 seconds. So the diesels dual cabs are slow, but the way they deliver power and the noise they make, makes them feel a lot quicker and frankly you wouldn't really want to go much faster in them anyway.

my old mans 2012 3.2l td pajero beat my old VH V8 commodore to 100kmh, that did it in 9.5s so the old 2.5t Paj would have beeen just over 9s...

What would be the best/reliable option be for gearboxes in the older Triton model, never had a fwd so not sure. Currently towing a tradie trailer (650kg) around with my old EL falcon but lookin for something built this century and with a working heater.

Not manual. Related to Pajero trans and every one used for towing screwed the gearbox to transfer case spline and week clutch and dual mass flywheel. Go auto and fit an ext cooler.

And the specs and real world performance can be poles apart, one on that list in particular.

Well, I took a manual Colorado for a spin and was suitably impressed, good grunt off the line, accelerated from 60 kph in 4th well without feeling sluggish. It has a good list of appointments and the internal layout was well I thought and I couldn't get past the $10,500 fleet discount currently being offered so I ordered one, $44,278 drive away with full cargo liner and front and rear carpet floor mats. Just have to wait until October for delivery for the Orange Rock colour.
What really put me off the Nissan Navara was the two big bulges on either side of the bonnet, not really noticeable from the outside when looking at the vehicle but sitting behind the wheel I thought they were intrusive and even obstructed the front corners from vision which I thought for a 4x4 was a poor design. The current Hilux was too down on power and torque and is now quite dated inside, what I didn't really like was the skinny steering wheel which reminded me of a car from the 70's, all the other cars I tested had nice leather fat leather wrapped steering wheels. Apart from a reversing camera, Toyota haven't really done much with it although they are sitting at just under 50k for white ones. Amarok was priced just too high after adding a couple of options at $57k. Ford Ranger missed the boat after the test drive fiasco with the local dealer went pear shaped. Triton, well the missus just didn't like the look of them and me neither really. Don't mind the D-Max but it would be a while before I was able to take one for a test drive so it didn't make the cut, it may have not made it anyway as it is down a bit down on power and torque compared to the Colorado.

A mate has a ST-X 550 with chip, exhaust and pedal booster.
If it wasn't for the traction control this thing would be a tyre killer, and with Coopr AT3's it could be an expensive tyre killer lol

this is what we we want ......... something a bit beastly ....
http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2015...-stealth-49428 There is no change to the F-250 and F-350's standard second-generation 6.7-litre Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel, which in MY2015 spec churns out 328kW (up from 298kW) and a monster 1166Nm of torque -- up from 1084Nm. It drives all four wheels via a six-speed TorqShift automatic transmission and slams down a gargantuan towing capacity of 8.6 tonnes. Non of this wimpy 3.5 tons bull**** ! |

That would be interesting as a tonne isn't a lot for a modern petrol 4 cylinder car to tow and the Ranger is slow to begin with. The advantage of diesel is fuel economy at, the ones I drive average under 9 litres per 100km which is brilliant.
They need to start upping the engines in the dual cabs, Toyota should put their 4.5 V8 in the Hilux. Especially for the prices Australians pay compared to the rest of South East Asia. If you really wanted to tow near the 3.5 tonne limit and needed grunt its probably worth stepping up to a Landrover Discover 4 with its 600nm engine or Landcruiser or American pickup. But then we start talking big money. Last edited by Brazen; 01-08-2015 at 09:28 AM. |

I can beat that, I once saw a Toyota Corolla towing a tandem trailer with an AU falcon on it, would've been a scary trip.

I was thinking about putting a towbar on ours because I didn't want to put a towbar on the 300c. I was only going to be towing a lightly loaded box trailer. In the end I bit the bullet and stuck it on the 300. Didn't even notice it was on the back of the hemi.

Goes alright for green waste and moving stuff around, small cars plenty capable of pulling 6x4 trailers. Yellow Festiva on this forum was towing a boat around with his TDCI Focus there for a while. |
