My kids wanted me to drive like that, it's my wife who complains about the Centrifugal force

The current X3 has a beautiful standard ride yet still the stiffness for corners - but that's what that company does for a living. I don't think the American owners of Ford are interested in such things. You'll only get it from their Australian and Euro designs - if they get past the One Ford dragnet. Hopefully the Everest has achieved that.

Always steer clear of the first generation of a new model eg EA Falcon etc. the buyers are the Guinea pigs and most gets fixed in the second gen.

Would be too worried about buying the first ones these days, they've come along way since the EA days. The Everest is essentially a modified Ranger so most of the problems have been already addressed especially in the power train drive line area. The front half of the car is Ranger.

That and the falcon Falcons still have there IRS issues with those bushes and its only been over a decade since it was installed...LOL

Absolutely, the px ranger was a pig of a thing
I was one of those guinea pigs and got one from the first shipment-awesome vehicle.
The Everest is essentially the 2nd gen Ranger so 3/4 of it is already tested/proven

Interesting dilemmas … but everyone seems to be forgetting the Ford Edge or Ford Explorer, one of which is rumoured to be coming to Australia. The Everest is a different category of vehicle to the Territory, and I would not be comparing the two. While I have not driven the Everest, and with respect to the individual opinions, it is hard to comprehend how a live rear axle vehicle (Everest) could possibly come close to the IRS of the Territory for ultimate wet and dry grip on bitumen.
Also, the Territory is a large SUV. The Everest is larger again. Unless one is doing genuine off road or required a heavy duty tow vehicle, then the live rear axle is a backwards step. Unless the need to replace the Territory is urgent, would it be worth waiting until seeing what the Edge is like?

I don't understand this question.
If a Toyota lover said should I get a Kluger or a Prado, everyone would say well do you want a serious 4x4 or a AWD family car.
Driving both vehicles has nothing to do with criteria.
Set your real criteria and the choice should find itself.

Anyone seen the new ford ad? Showcases mondeo, focus, ranger, fiesta, etc. in a row and they purposely put territory in the middle. A stupid cow walks towards the camera, concealing the Ford Territory altogether. The cameraman has made sure the territory is completely concealed by this stupid cow for the remainder of the ad. Come on ford, if you really think territory is that much of an eyesore, might as well delete the territory and stop featuring that annoying woman while you're at it...

We've found ourselves in exactly the same boat.
With kid number 3 on the way, the Ford Escape just ain't gonna cut it anymore. Although you can (just) get 3 baby seats in the back, there's no room for anything else.
A new Territory was the answer........ Until I saw the awesome looking new Everest perched in prime position at my local dealers.
For me, I'm trying to work out why shouldn't I go the Everest. Price and the need for off roading are it at the moment.
My Dad already has an SZ diesel and absolutely loves it. I do too. Always blows my mind the amount of space it has inside when I step straight from the smaller Escape.

There's a few things in the Everest that aren't in the Territory. Just a few that come to mind;
Power tailgate
Power third row seats
Power adjustable drivers and front passenger seats
Second row reclining seats
Brilliant adaptive cruise control
Active park assist
Moon roof
Xenon lights
Alarm
230v 150watt power socket

That's about all that comes to mind apart from all the obvious 4X4 stuff.

As for the need to go off road to buy one, that's rubbish. Anyone been near a school or kids sporting event lately? The streets are jammed with soccer mums in 4X4's.
I say drive both cars, work out what you can afford and buy the car you like.
I'll be keeping my new Territory for a few years yet but would look at an Everest as a possible replacement. But I think a Mustang will be our next car.

Most of that you need to buy the titanium. So for the price difference someone would need to see if its worth the money.

Funny enough these cars don't have memory seats. So if its a family vehicle it might be a problem....depending if your missus is short....or vice versa.

I think you are wrong there vztrt, will all due respect. I have a titanium and mine doesn't have any of those things, except may be the power seats, if you count the lower half of the seat being power!! :-) Real shame in my respect. It has a few good things but really lacks a couple of essential things that you think would be on a car of its price, but I do understand that they didn't want to throw money at it at this late stage of its life.
I think it really is up to personal preference and the only person that can get the answer, is the person buying the car. Good luck with choosing though as I think that they are both great cars in their own right!

He was referring to needing the Everest Titanium to get those features.. we know the Territory doesn't have them.

Point being would you want to spend an extra 30 grand for those features.

Surely setting a budget is the first step in car selection. regardless of the wish list

Agree totally, I'm picking up a Trend this week but found a Titanium for 71, even at that I still couldn't convince myself to spend the extra for stuff I might or might not use, power memory seats I'll miss them from the Territory, but active park assist, moon roof, meh and power 3rd row seats I wont use often enough to be an issue, they're easier and quicker than the Territory one to put upright.
Power tailgate I'm looking forward to, simply to stop the kids slamming the crap out of it.

Are decent cars built in 2015 without an alarm?

Alarms are one of those things I assume most new cars have, if I were buying a new car I would probably forget to even look into whether it has an alarm or not because I just assume it would.

Immobilisers yes. Alarms not so much. More likely to find GPS then an alarm.

There is nothing in it between the two cars. Apart from Height, the Terri is similar in dimensions. Think the Ranger is longer with the tub at the back.

I do like the Everest and my dad is buying one (he lives overseas and cant get a terri there) but I do like the interior of the Terri over the Everest. I found, IMO, the Terri drove smoother and handled better. Off Road would be hands down to the Everest but with 20 inch wheels, good luck finding off road rubber for that. Would have to change them to get some good off road tyres if you're that way inclined.

I might add that I enjoyed the Turbo Diesel over the Petrol Terri as the extra torque was fantastic. The petrol felt sluggish. The Everest felt good but the extra weight over the Terri also hurt the performance even with the extra 30Nm of torque and 3 Kw, it does not make up for the bulk of the Everest!

Unless I needed the extra 300 kg towing capacity or had tall kids for the last row, I'd go the Terri. Also, depending on your and your missus height, the Everest can be a little cumbersome getting kids into the baby seats with the extra height.

Pretty sure the frame is longer on the Ranger. Its almost 5.5 metres.

The Ranger wheelbase is 370mm longer.

The weight difference is pretty significant too, the Everest weighs 270-300kg more than the Territory (comparing awd diesels). Despite this the Everest has a slightly lower fuel consumption rating, but I think it is close enough not to be a factor.

Was referring to the difference between the territory diesel and territory petrol. I have driven both and the diesel is horrible off the line. If i was towing something very frequently or doing more than 25000kms per year it makes financial sense to go diesel. If not doing those k's or towing frequently than the diesel is a poor decision i.e higher running costs and poorer drivability.

Maybe in the 1990's

All diesels seam to have a bit of turbo lag, but they are pretty good these days.
Although I haven't driven a terri diesel I have driven about 8 different 4x4 diesels built after 2010 and they are pretty much all decent power and torque wise.
I guess comparing a petrol and diesel of the same model might make the differences obvious, but modern diesels can handle both city and country driving pretty well.
After the initial turbo lag which last only for a second, I can pull away from average traffic while keeping the rpm around 2000.

Other markets get a 2.0 ecoboost Everest. They also get a rwd version.

while I haven't driven an Everest as yet ,I already believe that the Everest will be more capable on rough roads and bush tracks than the territory
this is because of the commercial base that the Everest is grown from

an a now longer term terri owner I have found the driving experience of our
now ten year old suv to still impress all who ride with us
......I wish that the territory had the rough road capabilities that the name implies
