Watched this recently what a cracking car the new Fiesta gonna be!

My opinion has shifted on the tiny 3cylinder.

Check out the vid: New Fiesta ST

I like my Mondeo and cross shopped it with the ZB. It was 13k cheaper then a Calais V, similar tech plus the diesel is a bonus as the Mrs has a city commute each day (5.7 per hundred its sitting on). She loves it, that's all that matters to me.

There are some really good cars in that segment that sadly go unnoticed by buyers, and because of that there are some absolute bargains to be had.

Mondeo is so underrated. We had an MC Titanium. Rock solid car that soaked up km's with the ease of a Falcon.

Such a shame that the market has moved on from mid sized cars,
I have a feeling that the 2.7 EB in the US Fusion would be an absolute cracker.

I have mixed feelings about a possible 2.7 V6 Mondeo.

It would certainly provide a follow up to the turbo six cylinder sedans that had such a great following for many years.

But, I think it would fail to sell for the same reasons that the Insignia VXR, ZB Commodore VXR and Kia Stinger V6 don't resonate with buyers.

I reckon a 6 seat Dual cab of ANY brand would sell well...!!!!

even a 3 seat single Cab would sell well In my opinion.. otherwise you're up for a F250/RAM or Transit/transporter.... et al

Hilux did it up until ~2013/4..bit of a horrible middle seat but it was legit.

Seriously?

Most of the top 20 are front wheel drive. Most people wouldn't know or don't care.

(Not my personal view)

1. Not a V8
2. Not RWD (VXR's)
3. Not made in Australia
4. Not a SUV
5. Not a Dual Cab Pick up

Yes, but in the particular segment (large cars) it was RWD and that was what sold - even into its end of production VF continued to sell far better than its replacement has. While the VF sold well, and into the Falcon's heyday when it sold well, I'm sure most of the top 20 was still FWD. But that segment, large cars, was dominated by RWD. So maybe the replacements do drive with the wrong wheels for that segment.

Let's look at the natural successor segment for Falcon and Commodore buyers - premium midsize and premium large sedan segments. BMW, Merc, Jag, Audi: do RWD or FWD dominate sales in this segment?

look at it this way. People stopped buying large rwd cars long before they stopped production. If being RWD was an important criteria, then surely they would have been selling well. The segment has been tanking for more than a decade. It started tanking when all the options were still available.

the medium segment is no different. people just don't want that style of car. Its either lifestyle cars (utes, suv's) or small runabouts. on that note, the size of a corolla sedan (and most in that category) is now about the same as a 90's falcon anyway.

There is a reason some of the biggest brands (Ford, Nissan, Mitsi etc) are moving completely away from sedan based cars.

I get that the segment shrunk. And now the midsize sedan segment is shrinking into obscurity. Then probably the hatch segment will disappear - all passenger into SUVs. That's an overarching trend.

But while that large segment existed, it was RWD, and Holden's attempt at replacing the Commodore with FWD shows just how much more the RWD was preferred.

That's why I say look at the premium sedan segments - with the RWD Merc C Class doing so well, I'd say they aren't shrinking as much as the more affordable sedan segments. Which drive type dominates them?

I don't think a lack of RWD is the major reason that the med/large segment is shrinking.

C-Class sells well for many reasons, chief among them being that 3 pointed star on the bonnet and the badge credibility that it brings to the owners driveway. Most C-Class's are C200's with 135 kw, so its hardly like RWD is needed or even noticed.

A lot of nostalgia and sentimental aspects kept sales of VF Commodore, and to a lesser level the FGX Falcon, at respectable levels in the last few years of production.

I wonder if the ZB was RWD, would it sell like the VF did? Or would sales be the same as they are now and a case "not a real Holden" / "not made here"?

Yes its about 100x better than the other euro trash Fords we have available in Australia. But no, Australia is happy with the Mondeo

Isn't Fusion & Mondeo the same car? were just talking about power-plant & drive-line.
I think Fusion is a Sedan only - no hatch or wagon & the Fusions are made in Mexico.

Anyway its been axed - Mondeo may follow.

Personally I like these cars but wouldn't buy a sedan or hatch these days

Sure, in the same way an XR8 and a base model Falcon are the same car. Or maybe a closer comparison is an Evo and a Lancer.
I’d never touch a Lancer, but can get a little excited by an evo.

Mondeo isn't built with the V6 though, nor is there a RHD version that uses a V6. I remember seeing spy photos of a Mondeo ST which I assume was going to be an ecoboost V6 but I reckon that has been canned. Haven't heard anything about it in ages.

Sounds like the way car buyers think when looking at new cars to buy.
