I also like the fact they are not chasing the luxury market with Eunos anymore, just focus on core products and nail it.

Didn’t hear anyone saying that in 2002 (BA Falcon) or 2004 (Territory)
Disclaimer: I guessed the years and may have that wrong by a year, but they were winners for Ford This Mazda will be a decent thing, as was last year Volvo XC40. The Wheels COTY has pretty good evaluation criteria. .

Pretty sure history has shown the ba and Terri, especially those early ones to have more than their fair share of lemon type issues. So, my comment stands, winning it means little. |

Two vehicles in that segment had already set a benchmark, the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90. Both had with diesels averaging nearly half of the Territory in the real world. It might be easy to say in hindsight but the writing was on the wall as to what fuel will become default choice the segment. Still, the Territory was probably more deserving than the VN, VR and VT. Cadogan has ripped into Wheels. I hate it when I agree with him, although our reasoning is probably different. He’s butt hurt they didn’t pick a Kia. Cadogan should go and use those untouched tools he has on show in the back ground. Last edited by smoo; 03-03-2021 at 06:13 PM. |

I still don't know why Cx30 and cx3 both exist. What's the difference.

CX-30 is Mazda 3 based. Mazda's naming strategy is woeful.

My big however is the Territory was a ground breaker and at the head of a segment that now is dominating around the world....while the BA up to then was as close as any Australian car got to a big euro sedan. Yes it gained a lot of weight however Ford never really explained this was due to a higher body strength, I saw this first hand as a neighbouring taxi depot and panel shop showed very easily what happened when cars rear-ended BA taxi's...BA 1-rear ender 0. |

People buy them for all sorts of reasons. But more importantly, buyers willingly pay higher prices than they would for the car they are both based on. Meaning additional sales revenues and profit per car for less development costs, and less market risk, than would be incurred from developing an entirely new vehicle.

Maybe you have the cart before the horse, why isnt the best car selling more than others? IF the new Foldsubishia Fanger is an amazing car in every respect and a massive break through it deserves coty. But if people are buying SUVs ... Or maybe the advertising for a competitor or sharper pricing. How many years did falcon outsell kingswood/commy even tho it was better. BA got Coty, commodore outsold it. Territory got it., it was never best selling car, it often was best inits class, but also often wasnt. There are 1 million reasons people buy a car.. especially fleets and rentals, and journo review is a small part of it. Frankly I dont care if my daily driver is 1 second slower 0 -100, or a little floatier in the twists than some other car. As loong as its able to keep up in traffic, has comfy seats a good stereo and air, and the deal $$$ was good, im happy. Also i think to be eligible it has to be a new model for the year. SOa 2 -3 year old model isnt allowed Last edited by bathurst77; 04-03-2021 at 04:23 PM. |

I had a fresh from factory new 03 BA.. Had almost no issues with it in about 5 years of neglect and thrashing. CD stacker stuffed up, that was a well known issue.
Went through tyres and brakes like crazy. (waddya mean I'm not supposed to stomp on the accelerator and brake pedals like your squashing bugs?) |

Having both in the family at the same time, the BA felt way stiffer in regards to body flex.

Territory was a worthy win - as explained above. It was defining the SUV concept after solid market research, right at the exact moment when that sector took off and outgrew sedans in sales. Buyers got great functionality, flexible storage, choice of drivetrains, choice of seating, really good ride and handling too - all at a very reasonable cost. They nailed it.

I thought Cadogan's take on the relationships between the automakers/legacy media and.... (distant last) buying public was pretty spot on.
'criterion'/'criteria' - I mourn for the language. With such a low barrier to media entry, you can go out there and review the car yourself, and if you think it's terrible you can say so (at the cost/benefit of your channel's integrity and reputation). Personally, I think this fellow is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaqMQ2PW1tM (the age-old grudge match...)

My biggest gripe with Wheels is its inconsistency in applying its own selection criteria. For example, the magazine complained that the 2007 winner (MB C-Class W204) had rattle in its steering rack. Yet, the next year the FG was kicked out of COYT with rack rattle being a complaint. So, is rack rattle a selection criteria or not?
The pearler was in last year’s COTY when there were complaints about the Model 3 “being too fast”. Whaaaattttt???? I could understand poor marking if the engine overpowers the chassis, but if the vehicle is well sorted, a car magazine complaining about a car being too fast is someone just looking for excuses to disqualify. As for the CX-30, I think it is a competent car. Is it the way of the now? Yes. Is it the way of the future? Probably not. |

The same issue of Wheels has a interview with both David Flint and John Crennan, the visionaries behind Tickford/FPV and HSV.
These sort of articles are really the only reason I am still subscribed to Wheels. I get more joy reading about the back stories and insider knowledge these days, cars are just all same now, reading about jacked up 2.0 hatches gets boring after a while.

Well someone finally made something that was better on the day (and the manufacturers had available on the press fleet to give them). No surprise it was AMG that finally did it, they have come perilously close a few times. Love all the butt hurt over Porsche winning heaps... as motor has said multiple times, they knew they would get crap for it, but the best car on test must win, regardless.... Now for a lotto win, so I can buy myself a GTR Pro..: awesome machines.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
