Aren't the cadillacs in the USA front wheel drive now anyway?
They are a success story on fitting a FWD with a high powerered V8.

Unfortunately though, they don't sell as well as their RWD counterpart, the Lincoln Town Car. Also, Buick (another GM) has a supercharged v6 on the park avenue, and it is FWD too (its actually that 3.8 POS that Holden has been using for the last 17 years).

And also to clear up a couple of things, Holden does not export commonwhores to the USA. They only exported a small amount of Malaka's.
The overwhelming public response to the malaka was that it was far too bland, and understated.

Oh yeah, and there is far too much talk about Holden on these forums.

I would never own a FWD drive, ever. If Ford swapped to FWD, I would drive a Commodore. If both swapped over I would buy some wussy rice box.

Holden is the jewel of GM's crown becuase of its RWD expertise. Does anyone really believe that they would be allowed to switch to FWD?

Also, one must concede that Holden, from the VT onwards, has been one inovation ahead of Ford in the Commodore/Falcon comparision (or at least better at making the public think they are). Would they throw all of the away and switch to FWD. Nope, don't think so.

meh, if holden was to switch to FWD, they would have done it back with the vn/vp. Didn't holden uncrate the first 3.8l v6 motors to find out that they were to suit a FWD platform?

Importing without research means a great deal to holden.

Water under the bridge mate. Time to let it go I think.

Spoke to the Holden guys at the motor show - they are keeping the upper market models of the Astra - the Viva is replacing the City and the base model Astra. And suprisingly, the build quality on the born again Daewoos wasn't as bad as what I thought it would have been.

GM did pour a heap of money into those Korean facilities, I don't know how much, and I don't know how the cars would go on the open road but I must say I was suprised.

Honda, Nissan and Toyota have built a heap of factories in Thailand now - all the new Hiluxes are from Thailand, the Accords are from Thailand - don't hear anyone complaining about them!

Me thinks over 80% is a probably a bit of a stretch of the truth, considering how many families etc have a commodore.

Cadillac is mostly RWD now, they went FWD in the 70s but recently they
have been changing back.

Only FWD Cadillac is the DTS.

CTS, STS, XLR, SRX, Escalade, XSV, EXT are all either RWD or AWD.

80% is pushing the boundries too far.

But yeah I see alot of bombed out and riced Commies mainly from the VN-VS I see the odd riced VL everynow and then.

Anyway on topic.

FWD Commodore? If that were to happen I would shun Holden for using such a sh*t concept and come over to Ford permanatly.

FWD commodore i think that would be highly unlikely.... Why???

because they would be risking waaaaaaay too much to even consider it, Costs and clientel...

HOLDEN is not as stupid as the other parts of the GM empire they relise that if they go down the FWD route market lead will be lost.

Them not being stupid doesn't mean anything when The Boss in the USA says do this, now. They have to listen.

If Ford stops building rear wheel drive Falcons then I will stop buying their cars.

Dont think it will happen. I think Holden and Ford have learnt the lesson and seen the failures of FWD. Taurus and to a lesser degree the Magna have taught them, that matter how good it is it will still fail (Magna here not Taurus). I see AWD as the future and the prospect of an East-West AWD platform is likely (though i dont like that layout).

I the Falcon does go pure FWD though, people will go to Chrysler 300c or some imported Rice mobile.
