Alfa +1
some Clubmans,
some Honda's with exhausts (There was one at Sandown that was just tuned for power (he was doing 1:27/1:28's) and you could here it coming on to the back straight from the pit entry, not nice, no note, just loud).

Ftos were available as a 6 cylinder and as a 4 cylinder.

I am quite partial to the boxers in Subarus... and Cosworth BDAs... but honestly, I think the best sounding 4-cylinder I've ever heard with my own ears is the one that's stuffed under the bonnet of the original BMW M3.

Actually, it's a toss-up between the M3 and a Honda S2000, provided the Honda's being caned to within an inch of its life.

WRX, Integra Type-R. Some guy drove past me yesterday in a newish Celica and that thing sounded awesome. Pretty much any SR20DET with a decent exhaust sounds nice, so long as it is manual.

I think i hear rumors about 4 cylinder JTCCSupras. Anyway my old Fiat 131 with the 2L twin cam sounds great for a 4

bda twin cams are known to rev to 10,500rpms,and they sound unreal sucking thru a pair of big webers or a healthy 2ltr pinto dose it for me.Im abit bias though as Ive have quite a few of these.I drove a Sp23 duratec mazda3 the other day and at high revs its has a similar sound of a bda twin cam at full noise
having said that I dont mind suby flat fours with a nice exhaust.

2 wheeled fours: GSXR1300, best sound on earth (IMO)..

4 wheel fours: Any subaru with a proper exhaust..

And have to agree with the FOR argument when it comes to rotors.. love the sound of 20Bs, and the quad-rotor lemans car *drool!*

Mini Cooper S JCW (John Cooper Works) Kit. The sound it makes, and the backfire and burble on gear changes is amazing. Really mimics the original.

Also the Honda Integra Type R/S and S2000s.

Almost any Italian 4 pot from the 70s have nice notes. Same with European Ford motors, but then I'm a little biased.

A pair of Ducati 999s ... :voldar02:

Not many fours sound good really.

Flat fours sound harsh, but at least you can hear the motors unlike most overmuffled cars these days.

Honda fours sound okay when they are worked.

Old beetle... not sporty but familiar old air cooled engine chugging up the road.

Wrx's are nice with exausts, they sound like the v8's of the 4cylinder club for sure.
However the best sounding 4cyl would have to be either:

s2000
generation 5 preliude with h22a motor
type-r integra

Porsche 944 S2's 3.0litre 164kW inline-four sounds quite awesome.

From inside the car, IMO, the Fiesta 1.6 Duratec sounds very cool.
