Depends what you're doing with it. If its a daily driver and you do a lot of ks, why not! Money's better in your pocket than out your exhaust.

Not really a performance comparison, but in the week after i got my BA XR6 converted to dual fuel, i did 2100km on gas, and about 400 on petrol.
The 2100 on gas cost me $135 for the gas. To do 2100km on petrol at the retail price at the time would have cost me about $385. Saved $250 bucks in the first week! And same power on lpg, bugger all if any diff in economy, and the only noticable thing is the Lpg placards on the number plates.

So if i saves $250 in 7 days in an xr6, the savings would only go up if it was an 8.

workmate told me wednesday to put lpg on the xr instead of having the xf as a work hack. i dont think he expected the horrified look i gave him. xf has been off the road all week (auto died) the xr cost about $100 to drive all week instead of $40. driving a ba xr8 over an xf wagon its worth the $60.

i seen a excel on gas going up the freeway in the far right lane (overtaking lane) struggling to get up the hill and was probably doing 60km in 100km zone. a b-double went past it.

Datsun 1200 with a 2spd auto. It even had a custom roof rack made from fence pailings.

I also came across a wrecked Ford Meteor on gas, it was very cheap, so I bought it for parts!

My grandpa used to have a Datsun Stanza on gas, I think i would of had more grunt after a night on the beans, this thing would of run off the gases too

I remember when I was about 10 or so the only way we could get it to drop a banger was rev it in neutral and slam it into drive...not good for the tranny but it amused us

Given that a performance car has softer rubber, higher brake wear due to more spirited driving, with a higher purchase price & clocking up high klms =ing in greater depreciation a more economical purchase would be a wiser choice unless you have an ego to feed.
I drive an 8 & if I want economy I drive accordingly & when wanted I have the performance when needed & the luxury of boot space without the odour of gas.

Daewoo Lanos, mobile security patrol car. Only good thing was the fact that the rev limiter didn't work when it was on gas. :

If you're talking about the merits or otherwise of putting an XR on gas - they're not really a performance car, just a tarted up family car. The T3s, and the FPVs are really the performance cars (from factory), though with suitable mods, I guess the old XR6T and XR8s could be considered performance cars. But not really the AUs. At most, they put out 220kw (except for the series 3 Pursuits and T series), which is only a little more than what the new Aurion will put out.

My point? I have an XR8 on LPG. Why? Because I like the sound of a V8, I also used to tow a 1.6 tonne boat with it (sold the boat now though), and LPG makes it as cheap to run as a mid sized 4 (when it works properly).

Seen a few police cars on LPG now - a good thing I reckon. There should be more of it, seeing we (the taxpayer) are paying their fuel bills.

Wasn't one of the "outlanders" cars on Mad Max 3 on LPG?

I guess if you're the sort of person who'd buy one of those cars, anything's possible :ymca: :ymca:

since a gt-p is commonly used as a daily driver, i think its a smart move.

Yep fair enough, but I never said anything about AU XR's on gas, I mentioned BA XR8. I also said I had nothing against LPG.
I beleive it's the same as buying a GT & then a person puts remoulds on it because they can't afford the tyres.

And you base that comment on what?

I would gladly have a V8 and stick it on Gas. Pay less for fuel so i can pay to do other things, like Forced induction, or Dirt biking.

And to the orginal question, A Subaru WRX

I agree with this. I mean, what's so special about leaving the suckers on petrol, if some other fuel is just as good, and lot cheaper.

As has been said, the money you save allows you to spend a lot more on other stuff. Like mods, insurance, or women.
