Yesterday me and a couple mates went on a trip up to lancelin. Didnt see 1 speed camera and in about 350kms I saw about 2 police cars. Both unmarked. The first one didnt even give me a sideways glance and the second one passed me as I was sitting dead on 110 with the cruise control. Flashed my mate cos he was a couple over but apart from that nothing.

We drove alot yesterday, saw nothing of this police blitz and there were no idiots on the road. Sometimes its like I magically drive into another place.

More police on the road at this time of year is good. There are ALOT of drink drivers coming home from lunches and bbqs and so forth which can do alot of damage if something goes wrong. Im all for it but its when they go overboard that it can get annoying.

But thats just another reason to make sure someone else drives you everywhere!

Look around, they don't stop most people from speeding. The limits are stupid to begin with.

Come to Canberra and you will see it for yourself.

Spot speed van, slow down and then speed back up again. Yeah like that does a lot!

I'm not surprised the cops did this... they could do so much more damage to the hip pocket with their cameras. I haven't been done *yet* but I will be, one day, eventually.

My fiance is quite amazed that I've never been pulled over, gotten a fine or anything like that. Not even a parking ticket. Maybe I'm just careful ;).

So they did it on the southwest hwy? Between Perth & Bunbury I assume, Harvey sort of area?

It would have been much better spent on the Old Coast Rd near Lake Clifton where a substantial percentage of WA's road toll has been raised.
Not that there is any reason, it's a good piece of road and I fail to understand how so many can die on it.

Having said that it is good to see they did something about the blatant disregard for the speed limit on the SW Hwy. Most would be guilty of ignoring them (myself included).

As for those who call it one offence only, if a cop pulls you over for speeding, gives you a ticket, would you pull away at the same speed? If you get flashed you know you have been done... if you're stupid enough to get flashed again, well that's your own fault.

It can't be called revenue rasing when they announce on public T.V. (and possibly the newspaper???) where and when the cameras are going to be placed.

I think that the people responsible for the implementation of speed cameras and the "anti-speeding" campaings genuinly believe that staying alive on our roads is as simple as driving below the posted limit. This is what they believe.

I think 5 out of 10 motorists (there are still quite a few who are brainwashed into believing that nothing will happen to you if you drive below the posted limit and anyone who drives over the limit is the devil and should be hung, shot or given the chair) can see past this and know that "speeding" plays only a minor role in the greater scheme of things that include the need for better driver training, a proper licensing system, sensible and appropriate speed limits, etc.

It's just that by using speed cameras and blaming speed for road injuries / fatalities, the government are seen to be doing something about the road toll.

Also, a sign and some galvo pipe to lower posted limits after an accident occurs on that stretch of road is cheaper than implementing schemes to help prevent it from happening again isn't it???

Not necessarily a speed sign, but something like "8 people dead, 34 hospitalised, 23 Disabled " to remind people of dangerous sections.

I was being sarcastic. I was saying that the governments response (on the North West Coast of Tas anyway) to recent deaths on our roads has been to lower the posted limit, rather than look into the REAL reasons why people are dying on our roads.

They do have blackspot signs, although they don't go into that kind of detail.

if somehow the government managed to introduce a system where every piece of main road was governed by a speed camera then nobody would speed would they? thus decreasing the likelyhood of a more serious crash then if the driver was not going faster than the speed limit.

plain and simple, the faster you go the more serious the accident could be.. thats why i stick to the limits, they are there for a reason.

That's a stupid stretch of road to put the excessive amount of cameras on. There's plenty of slow vans especially in the holiday season, limited opportunities to overtake, and it only takes one idiot to hold up a whole line of traffic whilst overtaking because they're too scared to speed, which would equal a lot of angry, angry drivers, alot more risks being taken on two way roads.

Not saying that slowing down is a bad idea, but the speed limit is 110, it scares alot of people down to 90 when there are cameras around.
