The reason so many people are saying that people don't "get the idea behind such a car", is that a lot of people don't seem to get the idea behind such a car. It's not a drag racer, it's not a supercar, it's not something with masses of horsepower for people that use the power to overcome chassis inadequacies or other handling problems (go fast in a straight line and don't worry about the corners). It's going back to a time when these sort of cars didn't have a lot of power, but by christ they could handle, and that's where the fun was. They rewarded those who were able to make the most of the chassis and whatever power the thing did have to overcome much more powerful rivals on winding roads. Some of the most popular and best handling sports cars over the decades have usually not had the biggest engines...think the B-series engine in MGB's and others. Initial D was a revelation for a lot of people...usually westerners who were used to big horsepower equalling "performance". It showed a well set-up AE86 Trueno with a fairly standard 4AGE engine, but it was driven by someone who knew the road intimately and who was able to use the car his father gave him to use to overcome much faster opponents. They'd get away from him in straights, but the corners are where that sort of thing is won. If animation isn't for you, try and find the live action version of Initial D...it's subtitled in English, and was a Japanese film made in Hong Kong (as Japan wouldn't let them do the car scenes on the roads). There's no CGI, it's all real cars doing the racing for real, usually with the actors at the helm. Amazing stuff and really lets you see what it's all about. |

I don't get why people "don't get it"
The 86/BRZ isn't aimed at mixing it with EVO/STi/GT/F6/XR6 Turbo's or anything else similar, it isn't aimed at people who want to tow boats/horse floats/jet skis or any other type of trailer, it isn't aimed at people who wan't to go cruising with their bogan mates in the back seat. It's for people who want something cheap and cheerful that will out handle most (if not all) cars on the market at that price point, it's for people who want to chuck some slicks in the boot drive to the track have some fun and then drive it home again. Personally I see this car being aimed at MX-5/Suzuki Swift/Mini types, people that want something fun but don't want a boring hatchback. The MX-5 is probably it's closest rival. I also don't get why people who obviously don't have any interest (or anything positive to contribute) to this thread, continue with their boring dribble.... NEWSFLASH we don't care ! [QUOTE=Polyal]
People who are against the 86 are against karting, which is the purest (perhaps) form of motorsport..its not about bulk power but maintaining speed and enjoying apex's..thats it. QUOTE] This is exactly the point i was going to make, weve all had a go a go carts, and loved it were we worried that our car in the parking lot had more grunt?

First of all the Korean built Holden's are never badged as a Daewoo. Ues they are built in Korea by GM but how does that differ from Ford selling Focus' and Fiestas here that we're built in lower cost countries such as thailand and South Africa? Both of which are actually cheaper manufacturing enviroments than Korea....but hey let's not let the truth get in the way of some brand biased opinions! Second of all who cares who made it? It was a joint venture, neither Toyota or Subaru have ever tried to pass it off as anything different. Further more whilst Subaru did the engineering and manufacture, styling was done primarily by Toyota and they offered their direct injection system to the program. So it's hardly 100% Subaru After reading all of the dribble in this thread it makes me realize there are not very many truly knowledgable car enthusiasts here! Mostly just super biased people that can't get past the badge on the car! Inagine the praise that would be spewing for the same car if it had a blue oval on it. There would only be a few people even dare say anything negative. This car was never aimed at traffic light heros, and it may well be underpowered but if people can't at least appreciate what this car is, I am sorry but you are not a car enthusiast Truthfully it's not even my bag, but I bet it's a blast to drive and I bet it puts a smile on every owners face Well done to Toyota and Subaru! |

This thread is out of control, I feel slightly less intelligent for reading some of the posts here... So many people cannot see this for what it is, a lot cost sporty RWD alternative to the plethora of FWD cars on the market (with the exception of the MX5)
I wonder if Ford came out with a euro built RWD 30kish sports car with a NA Volvo 5cyl engine would the haters still be hatin'? That'd make it a re-badged volvo, right? (Yes, I realise the 5cyl is no longer in production, it was just a comparison..)

So many haters, so little brains.
A TRUE car enthusiast would understand what Subaru and Toyota have done here. A TRUE car enthusiast knows that power isn't everything. If you don't like it, move on. No one wants to hear your dribble about being a traffic light hero. That aside, I can't wait to jump in the drivers seat and give this a blast through the twistys. Should be a fun car to drive

I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Looks like it would be a blast through the Adelaide hills, power is not everything and I have been in some cars through the twisties that had serious hp but would have been eaten by smaller more nimble cars with much less power. I can't see why people are complaining, if you don't like it you don't have to buy it, no one is twisting your arm!

Depends on the dealer and their stock allocation. We are not a big dealer, but we took far more orders than we were expecting.

not sure if a car dealer would cop it as I've always bought off the lot, but something I did when ordering my leather lounge was ask him the delivery time, add 2 weeks and then ask him to sign an agreement I drafted saying I would get a further 20% discount if it was not delivered in time.
Even if they won't sign it is a good way to gauge how confident they are in their ETA (20% off would mean negative profit on an 86 I'm sure, so would have to less) |

Once again the Japanese just copy and tweak. Agent86 is reverse "price shock", no wonder its selling so well Be patient, coming from the land of copy everything else and follow the leader, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda etc would be working on there own as we speak, be a bit like Japanese motorcycle brands, remove the badges change the colour, and same same Its ok, nothing more, a modern day Celica, the real winner is the price of it Last edited by RASER; 27-06-2012 at 10:13 PM.
