And here I have been saving my pennies for when the announcement is made that the I6 will be killed off, was looking forward to getting some kind of swan song model.

Not a bad thing though, this engine has been developed on somewhat of a restricted budget compared to other world class engines; imagine what some serious cash could do to it.

The I6 definately has a strong future if the costs add up. The engine plant is gauranteed safe till at least 2014 at the earliest, after that its a bit grey due to the confusion about the future Falcon platform, but future emmisions compliance shouldn't be a problem.

I think you will find that with the current power output methods the 225KW of old would be about 10% less = 205KW. Also it was 4.3 litre not 4.2. I had a "triple pack" engine in a Centura and it was lucky to get the old 18mpg on the highway and needed spark plugs changed every 15,000 km, let alone emissions, as mentioned, so the modern engines are pretty good.
