People seem to be offended because they believe some moral code is being broken if you buy a decent car and don't drive it every week, guess what? the car doesn't know its not being driven, it doesn't have feelings.

Buying a Cobra as an investment may not be the best idea compared to property or other areas but then maybe those people also want to be able to tell people "i've got a BF cobra at home with only 4K on it!". "That's a lot more interesting than "I've got a small block of land with 2 trees and some grass on it". So what if they don't drive it every week or advertise it for more than what people will pay, it doesn't hurt you.
Dont type that to loudly you will offend my GT it has feelings. You dont Sound to much like an enthusiast otherwise you to would talk to your car like everyone to scared to admit lol. The fact is when investing in things people must be prepared to be in for sometime for things to rise in value. Otherwise you are trying to inflate the market most will see this like everyone here.
It is the one person who is hoping to get into the game with a bit of cash not knowing a rip when you see one getting left sitting on an overpriced investment that will have to now be kept for the long haul as it should have been sulking if they find out by some other car nut bagging them out.

And the differance between an xc and the bf cobra other than thirty years and a couple of doors is the xc cobra was not a GT. The bfgt didnt win 1st n 2nd at bathurst and the bf hasnt had time to make a cult statis of anysort. Which all takes time. But the new force fed gt and gs is already flyin to the head of the pack in the new car stakes creating a name for itself.

Just wondering.......
Is there a correct protocol for storing an "investment" car ?
I expect that maybe these cars should be started up every couple of weeks or so ?
Perhaps the oil gets changed out every 6 months ?

If one was spending 70k on a three year old car that hasn't been looked at, driven
or had an oil change, this could be potentially bad for the engine.... Yes, no, maybe ?

I tend to think if I was buying (hypothetically), I rather look at the weekend
cruiser than the mothballed garage one.

I actually drove a new Supercharged GTE on the weekend and my take on it is that all FPV stuff until now will be seen as second best (no offence intended). If you have a BA BF early FG car in storage for the future I would say be prepared for it to be viewed like an XR or XT GT is now. Nice but not the "king hitter" like the XY GT is seen as.
OH yeah, The GTE was freakin insane! makes lots of snap crackle pop noises and the supercharger whine is........Yeah Baby! I think I need a cigarette now......

Yep - until series 2 is released with 351 Kw and then series 3 with an Intercooler and 400 Kw etc etc

Each new release will have something bigger and better. Your logic only stands if FPV were to quit making the GT after this model. in 10 years time - I reckon most people would have far forgotten this current new 335GT release. That's life.......

Honestly, the whole collectable thing is over in my opinion

I mean lets face it, every GT since BA now how more than acceptable performance for the man on the street. Its no longer a case of the only fast Ford you could buy were made in 69/70 . And now the buyers are flsuh with T6 versions as well as V8 versions.

Maybe theres a few nostalgia heads out there but honestly I think their numbers are thinning and common sense prevails.

Exactly right.

The ONLY reason why the Phase III is so "collectable" is because the government stepped in and stopped the Phase IV, XU2, E55 etc. what ever was to follow them.

Of the current generation, that is EA onwards just how collectable is an ED XR8 or AU T1 etc.?

If the demand and supply status for Cobras was such that for every one offered for sale there were two potential buyers then the price would increase accordingly due to demand exceeding supply. However once the asking price gets to a level where demand starts to fall away, that's when you get a fair idea of the market value.

For example, at a price of $110k+ (which is the price one of those sellers is asking) this is obviously way too high in todays market as there are no takers at that price - and why would there be given that you can get 10-12 others for less than that price with most around the $65k to $70k mark. If however there was only one for sale at $110k then it's more likely he would get that asking price (or closer to it) because he has no competition from other sellers.

If you desparately wanted a Cobra and had been looking for the past 3-6 months and the only one you could find for sale was the one on carsales.com for $110k AND the seller wasn't prepared to budge on asking price, then its a fair bet you'd pay $110k for it.

The same principal works for any car - even Black BA2 GT's
or any desirable commodity for that matter

Waste of money. Were they ever really all that collectible? They were always going to be superceded by something better, faster and more powerful. Now, the last ever turbo I6 may be worth something, just like the last of the powerful V8's were worth something.
