The WW LPG issue both cars were experiencing were not due to filling at the same station...

EDIT: Looks like Mobil is now the supplier for all 7-11 stations...

When you’re talking about LPG in Melbourne, there are generally five places that it is sourced from with Otway being the sixth, when it's working that is.

What was the Woolworth’s site in the northern suburbs you had the issue with?

And as for Mobil supplying 7-11, that was part of the original deal to sell the sites.

I’ve had poor running on LPG from the following sites:

Murray Road, Preston (near the station).
Plenty Road (unsure of address number, but its opposite the cemetery near Latrobe university).

After these 2 incidents, I haven’t filled at WW since.

Wax build up is very bad news in LPG,especially with liquid injection used in most Fords 2002 up.
As a Truck driver I mostly use Shell as a rule,or Bp as they have the best rep.The truck has run fine using these fuels.
Things you shouldn't do is fill while there is a tanker fueling the station because it stirs the crap up in the stations tanks,and they all have crap in their tanks.Also don't fuel up when your near empty,if you can help it,cause that will have the same effect.

I avoid WW fuel after it regularly came up short on how many k's it would go before it needed a re-fill. Generally use Shell V Power or BP Ultimate (BP always seems much dearer). It was going into a 70's car (daily driver)and I always used the WW on the Sunshine Coast.

As a side issue I knew someone that drove road tankers and had to go to the refineries (any of them) and he commented that you could see and smell the difference in fuel (there was a link with the price per litre). Remember diesel is a bit of combination of anything and everything - its not like McDonalds where it tastes the same at every store. Do you think the fuel companies want to make the 'better' stuff because its better for customers cars, or do they want the 'cheaper' stuff to increase their profit margin.

Quiet to the contrary mate the fuel companies sell the best product so as to keep customers, one wrong move and no one will ever buy the fuel. Just ask any old cane farmers up north about diesel quality. And where to get the best fuel from.

my regular servo is a ww caltex...and i use e10 90% of the time, it's either that or 95 vortex

never had a problem in years

No, I buy from my local Coolibar bottle shop. The funny thing is my local is slightly cheaper than Dan Murphy's in comparison.

They are too big for their own good, they have a big stranglehold on everything. I find it amusing that people see them as "Australian" and anyone who doesn't feel ripped off by them I say continue shopping there.

My neighbor copped a tank of contaminated diesel from the Safeway/Caltex here in Pakenham. A mechanic drained as much of the water as possible and then once the secondary fuel tank was switched, I drained the rest of the water.

The only reason I think the diesel there is contaminated is low maintenance and low volume diesel turnover.

The company I work for uses nothing but Caltex. We've had no issues from the Caltex truck stop here in Pakenham which would be to the volumes being turned over. It's now been bought out by United so we can't use it anymore. We used to turnover around 150-300lt's per truck per day via the truck stop ex-Caltex

No I don't drive tankers, do you? But I have done back to back dyno testing between Ultimate, Vortex 98 and Optimax. I've also spoken to representatives from each company at the time to find out the differences between the fuels.

But send me a photo of a tanker delivering BP Ultimate fuel to a Caltex petrol station, and I will believe you that they are the same fuels.

I do know they all share 91RON fuels but 98RON fuels are their own blends.

Thanks for that Full Noise, I thought to my self last night that there would have to be a tanker driver on AFF. So I guess you would have to know and I found it very interesting. So all 91 is the same and the 98 is shared around except Shell have there own. So that just prove it then, it's the actual servo and how well their maintenance procedures are carried out.

On another note, I notice my local IGA is offering 4 cents a litre of your shopping bill. So you go to any servo ask for a receipt then keep it until you go shopping then show it at the checkout. So now I'm thinking to myself should I start shopping at the IGA. Or I could just try another woolies outlet and see how I go, just none of my local ones have been mention yet good or bad.

Never any issues from woollies fuels in Canberra. Been using it for years in all cars and bikes. Better fuel economy on Woolies than shell or the overpriced BP fuel.

This is where fuel comes from in Australia :-

Kurnell Refinery (Caltex)NSW
Clyde Refinery (Royal Dutch Shell)NSW
Geelong Refinery (Royal Dutch Shell)VIC
Altona Refinery (ExxonMobil)VIC
Bulwer Island Refinery (BP)QLD
Lytton Refinery (Caltex)QLD
Kwinana Refinery (BP)WA

Unless a refinery is running short of fuel [shutdowns etc] they will import some and some of the minors import fuel.

As an example in WA then most of your fuel comes from the BP refinery.

Oil company's also share terminals like in Brisbane BP and Mobil share a terminal.

Also as someone else said there are pipelines between refineries and terminals so they can deliver fuel etc.

Just to add to this every refinery has a laboratory where all fuel is extensively tested before it is released to the public.

Sometimes refinery's have open days > rare but it does happen > see if you can catch one as it's a big eye opener.

It still doesn't make any sense. Even people (inc myself) in this thread are noticing a difference between Vortex 98 and BP Ultimate. And in my case that's even between different servo's all located on the southside of Brisbane.
So why the difference if they're the same? And is the 98 RON fuel available on the Brisbane Southside made by Caltex than or BP?

From what you're saying, all those on here that say BP Ultimate is better may as well go to Caltex for some Vortex 98 and use the 8 cent discount voucher then. No point in paying BP's dearer price.

I'm still not convinced that Vortex 98 and BP Ultimate are exactly the same. Some years ago, I remember when a lot of stations ran out of BP Ultimate so I had to switch to Vortex 98 in the interim. Why would BP run out but not Caltex in that case?

My issue is not around the quality of fuel but the measurement.

My wife's EL wagon has a 75l tank. It was very low when I filled up at the Safeway in Waurn Ponds, Vic. I stopped filling at 83l.

I lodged a complaint, rang the local Ford dealer who confirmed that there was no way to get 83l into an EL wagon.

Safeway advised Gilbarco have an independant contect to maintain the equipment and the measurement cannot be other than correct.

I responded to them and said it was their word against that of Ford and my experience in 10 years of ownership. This meant they wouldn't get any more of my money than necessary.

As a result, I also found out about all the companion brands they have and do my best to not shop there if I can avoid it.

I wondered if somehow the fuel was being heated and expanded so the amount passing through the measure was correct but I ended up with less usable fuel.

I'm absolutely suspicious of all and any activities undertaken by these large companies. They trick us into spending more with them than we realise. I'm sure people will be unhappy with Dan Murphy and go and shop at BWS instead. I think it should be mandatory that the ultimate owner should be clearly demonstrated as, Dan Murphy, a Safeway Group Company so you can see who it is you are spending your $$$ with.

I haven't really used Woolworths petrol since I left the company. Not because of the quality (mind you I never really knew the diff between fuels) but because I no longer felt obliged to buy my fuel from the company I no longer work for, plus I was also getting staff discount haha.
