As soon as I hit 88 miles per hour, I'll be back in a time when Falcons are still available.

Well theres still WRX, Evo, Stang, 300C, etc. all cars that provide more complete performance/more thrills than Falcons. Probably still my work triton, maybe an SS ute/Stang/cheep Beemer as a weekender.

The same thing I've been driving every day for the last 11 years, my XW Falcon. Seems nobody has told it that Falcons get an option to retire.

Look at my sig. Falcons won't suddenly vaporise come 2016. There are 54 year old Falcons going around today.

I don't need to buy a new car every 3 years. It's not a phone.

I must be odd as well as I have gone from a FG XR6 Sedan as my daily to an AUII ute. The wife now has the FG as her daily and we are selling her small car. After having the ute I cannot go back to a sedan, when it finally has had its day I will get for a dual-cab ute.

Think I will do my best to find another AU if mine dies. Nothing else comes close and the BMW is 95% fully restored now and 28 years old.

After Aussie Falcon and Territory are gone, there isn't a great deal that will get me going back into a Ford showroom (have bought new from FOA). Not that there is no good product (their product is good), just not much passion for the imported and FWD Fords here.

Will keep the Sprint, will also be nice to collect a few AU's and take care of them. Others here are mentioning the AU as the model they would most likely keep - is it the combination of steering feel, handling and the last Windsors? Styling and reliability? Cheap servicing?

Now no one will understand a guy collecting and driving old AU's. So, for new & in place of the Falcon, the Jag XE is on the way with the supercharged 3.0V6 and manual, that would be quite a good sedan. In place of the Territory, RRS. Looks like a supercharged RWD/AWD future.

Good topic Hulk, it's something we have to consider.

To your question on a us, i can only speak for my xr6 s2 but no doubt other variants are similar.......... for me the au for its many good points and a few minor flaws and is one of the easiest and comfy cars to use as a daily,
all the controls are just easy to use and fuss free, it doesn't have flash gadgets like other models but,
I've said it before ..... the au is like that comfy old pair of shoes that you don't want to take off.

I would say the point is what new car can you buy !
For us who have to buy a new car every year or two ?
I have to drive a ute and like the falcons and commodores as they fit the bill but I don't know of any other ute that will cut it when they have gone.
Help !!!!!!! I don't want to drive the other gutless ill handling bad on fuel evil trashy rubbish. when you drive 50,000km a year or more the others are an insult.
The seats in all them other utes are such a disgrace that I could punch someone in the face that they have the hide to sell such rubbish, just being in one of even the new ones even for an hour just makes me just want to walk away and the regret one has having to get back in one, they are dangerous buckets of just backward trash.

The modern day buss box ute has come a long way from the old ones as far as the engines go, but the ride not everyone needs high load capacity or the backward nasty riding short length cart sprung rear end, coils springs can do the job just fine, just look at how the VN-S commodore ute did it, as the rubber block works great with it all.
