Our Kuga had pretty bad tailgate alignment issues from delivery. One side was about 7mm out of whack. None of the body lines and light were aligned. Complained about it and Ford had a crack at fixing it and after two attempts its still not 100%. In the end gave up and vowed never to buy a new Ford again.

Pretty sure the Mondeo now comes out of same factory as the Ford Kuga?

We have waited a couple of years of this... It shouldn't have any panel alignment issues the new factory has been running for a while now.

Well not necessarily. Several manufacturers build cars in Czech Republic and Slovakia which have low labour costs but the product quality is pretty much the best in the world. There are plenty of other factors coming into play as well.

I think Spain is trying to trade its way out of its economic problems via its manufacturing sector. There have been plenty of quality issues but it seems to be gradually getting better.

Thai assembled cars seem to be ok, they're cheap aren't they?
What about local assembled cars? Not exactly cheap and not exactly quality workmanship either.

Here’s a question from someone who knows nothing about putting cars together. With that kind of line up issue, is that down to bad design, bad manufacturing of the hinge or just badly put together in the factory??

You would need to have a car to try and find the cause of the issue . Otherwise you are guessing.

I`d say fords main problem is a lack of focus on quality control, this has been the big problem for ford over the years , some models seem to fare better than others.
Qaulity control is deeper than just keeping panels aligned , its also about doing the hard yards with vehicle testing prior to release, the terri ball joint issue comes quickly to mind among others, the dsg gearboxes, falcon diif bushes.

i could go back to the TE cortina days when it was brought to Australia, not a bad car if you got a good one, if you got a bad one ........ bugger !
this is where ford loses ground to other car brands, they do some great things with some areas, but some areas are still pretty average..
