Lucky for you that you found someone so keen on a dangerous family killing death trap they were willing to pay overs for it. Guess it is possible they have given up on life and have chosen your modded turbo as their exit. |

I purchased at Christmas a 1978 88 inch Land rover. fitted a set of cooper snow tyres equal to the 7.50-16 option.
Equiped with the safety features of non boosted single circuit hydrolic 10 inch drums, front seat belts heater and clear vision of the extremities. The 50+ horsepower 8 Km/l 2.25L 4 cyl emission engine with the 4:1 diff ratio capable of legal hyway speeds. My only safety risk worth calculating is noise.

common to hear on the radio about serious/fatal car accedents from people avoiding animals on the road including colisions with other cars or pedestrians.
my last roo impact with a car[AU] was a large grey landed on the bonnet and took out the head light and power steer pump. Often have bird strikes with the workshop hino, including one came through the front windscreen. Often get into situations with the truck including 2 off road excussions last thing you need is a bag deployment. Last week I happily found the steering wheel air bag is actually a dummy. given the high numbers of counterfeit parts around.

If you hit a kangaroo at 110km/h would the airbags go off? If so That would be dangerous. Better to be in an old xc falcon tank with no airbags which simply knocks the kangaroo up over the car and keeps going without a scratch.

Interestingly have a late model courier that impacted with a 70 series landcruiser head on and work in the yard at work. Both trucks bent chasis cracked gearboxs and very flat. Passenger in the courier died.
Just too much force involved in head ons, have heard stories about people being in 5 start cars but have had arteries torn from heart etc.

When the combined force of a crash is 100km/h and hits a solid object the human body cant survive. It's been proven in science many times over. You can survive a head on crash due to the object not being solid but you hit a brick wall at 100km/h no safety rating will save you. Sure safety ratings are good but i can tell you now a ford focus hitting a kenworth with a 5 post bullbar at a combine speed of 200km/h, the occupants of the focus will not be around to tell the story, regardless of the safety rating.

This thread is a good reference to see what used cars have good safety ratings.
It also may open the eyes of many driving unsafe cars and urge them to upgrade. It could save your life |

It would have to be hard enough to trigger all the sensors on the front of the car for the airbags to come out, I doubt a roo would be enough to set them off, but you would be walking home still.

My partner's Euro hatchback has a 5 star rating, yet it has the worst rear visibility of anything I've driven other than my old windowless panelvan.
On top of that the side mirrors give you the impression that objects are far further back than what they really are. Obviously the safety of motorcyclists is not part of the equation. |
