See the point is, whether you sit up someones **** for 1.5km at 50 in a 60 zone or sit behind them 50m doing 50 in a 60 zone, you're still doing 50 in a 60 zone and on a single laned road there is little to do but accept it as an inconvenience.
Over that 1.5km distance doing 50 in a 60 zone will take what, 2 minutes, at 60 it'll take 90 seconds, is that 30 seconds of their time worth someones life and if 30 seconds is somehow affecting their schedule, perhaps a course in time managment might be of greater importance.

Post of the day ….No wait...post of the month

Sprinty you sound like the type of driver who would jump out and check for damage to the car if a little kid got hit by your car.

Lol, would that include speed limited trucks doing 90/100 in a 110 zone too?

…. or someone whose car is in limp mode, or 80klm/h spare wheel, or conserving fuel to reach the next servo....we could go on Bent 8, but some people can't get over this idea that everyone must drive at the limit.

I personally have nothing against motorcyclists, I actually am a lover of bikes although don't ride myself but one thing I do see often and have done quite frequently of late is that bike rider's don't do themselves any favours when they leave there indicators on by mistake and never make or intend to turn.

Just today I seen two seperate scenarios where both riders were parked on the side of a 80k limited road and took off and indicated in the process but once merged and travelling onwards they left there indicators on for quite some time as I followed from a distance.

All you need then is for some one that is inpatient or in a hurry to be sitting at a intersection and having to give way to these riders but noticing that they are signalling to turn but never do.
It's a accident just waiting to happen.

I don't know but I assume it's hard to hear the tick, clock, tick for a rider and this is a cause ?

Just I think some rider's should be very weary off when riding, cause we all know who will come of second best heaven forbid an unfortunate incident occurs.

You can't actually hear the indicators on a bike. You have to condition yourself to manually turn them off each time. They flash on the instrument cluster as well, but you only see that when you look down away from the road.

You can get auto cancelling indicators nowadays but they're not really wide spread atm.

Yeah I thought that may be the case, it would be quite difficult to hear.

It would be a good habit to get into though to make sure that as a rider it never happens that a car pull's out in front.

While everyone is bashing on "inconsiderate" car drivers being dangerous to motorcyclists, I thought mentioning a recent incident worthwhile.

2 motorcyclists were leaving a local truckstop, and instead of pulling up in the driveway while traffic cleared in the direction they wished to travel, they simply pulled out and STOPPED in the middle of the lane they were intending to cross..... yep, full on both feet on the ground zero movement.... screw anyone who wanted to get past, the motorcycle police in Trumps motorcades would've been proud!

Coming home last night I had 3 motorbikes lane filter at 60 kms an hour basically cutting me off.

You guys wonder why people get agro, stop riding so aggressively.

I also had one overtake me on the left on a roundabout a few months ago, to the point where I had to jump on the brakes. He then proceeded to abuse me at the next 3 sets of lights, all while on dash cam.

Obviously you endorse motorists sitting up bike riders ***!!!

If not stop generalising bike riders as there are just as many moron car drivers who intimidate other road users.

Exactly. Too many times people witness an incident by a certain type of road user, and then treat all users of that particular mode of transport the same.

Notice Bent8 didn't go attacking all truck drivers because one acted poorly, or all car drives etc....

I understand how easy it it to generalize a group when the majority of this minority on our roads are seen breaking laws and taking unnecessary risks without thinking twice.
Oh but don't dare call them out, they're emotions are as deficient as their common sense.

Thanks Rob, what you say is completely correct, people shouldn't stereotype a certain demographic based on the actions of a few, im not a thrill seeker and having driven heavy vehicles i know how important courtesy is to helping everyone get where they need to with as least amount of drama as possible and so when i was on the scooter i did my best to give plenty of warning with signals, moved over where i could and didnt go out of my way to inconvenience anyone.

Its like kids, i've seen plenty of kids about who do things that drive me nuts but i'd never tar every kid with the same brush.
A large part of my work is picking up numerous families most precious cargo and transporting them to school, to do that safely i need to tip toe around amongst all kinds of drivers and vehicles whilst doing me best to keep not only my cargo safe, but those around me too, i'd do anything to keep those kids safe, they call me mate and they are mates of mine, all 22 of them.

I'd like to think that if i can return those kids home safely to their families that people would give me the same consideration and return me home safe to mine, but people dont see whats beyond the scope of their vision unfortunately.

Perhaps i give society too much credit though.

Mate there is always the 1%ers out there that create the bad perception. I went for a ride with my brother a few months back. By ride he was on the bike and i was in the car. Reason being, in the twisties and stuff he isnt trying to ride like kacey stoner and fang it around, it was more a scenic cruise. The odd squirt, but having a car to block the few guys wanting to think that all people on 2 wheels want to race on scenic roads in their lowered toyota 86 with a crap sounding ebay exhaust is why i was there. I have airbags worst case if i get rear ended. Bikes dont. Yes there are some people who have brains in their pants not in their heads on bikes, but its the same in cars or trucks. I seen a bloke go agro on a car on a bike on the freeway today. It wasnt a near miss even. But the bloke on the bike was in a wife beater, shorts and thongs. Thats the 1%er right there.

Rules of driving on our roads is simple, getting from A to B safely for yourself and others.
It always amazes me how aggressive people can be to each other on our roads, stupid actions eventually leads to unnecessary injuries and deaths.

Since you are apart of this forum, so interested in vehicles, and come across as someone who knows what they are doing, I'm sure you rode your scooter appropriately and safely. However I still think scooters are the Camry's and Corolla's of the bike world. Watch them very carefully because half of them have no idea what they are doing.

Pretty scary how easy it is for people with no bike riding skills to ride a scooter. Riders of other styles of bikes seem to have a much better idea on how to ride properly.

i rode in sydney traffic for years without too much drama, imo, if you ride a restricted scooter i traffic, your game mate. forget what people should and shouldn't do, ride to the conditions, the fact is people are going to tailgate slow vehicles. and a scooter isn't powerful enough to get you out of trouble mate. i think you were running the gauntlet to work and might safest for you drive instead. cheers.

No, not at all, fair call.
I just figured seeing as where i live is as far out of the hustle and bustle of city driving that 7k's each way twice a day as i do split shifts would be manageable.
Unfortunately i was wrong, but we live and learn.

What i find most ironic in it all is that the tailgating issues, with the exception of old mate in the truck, all took place on one road, the last couple of k's of the journey to work.
The other part of the journey wasnt a problem even though those roads are probably busier at certain times.
It seemed like on the roads where overtaking was possible, people were happy to sit back, but where no overtaking was possible due to the nature strip divider to the right and parking lane with garden beds on the left, it seemed to encourage people to apply pressure.

This leads me to believe its a case of the old 'im offended' attitude that is so prevelent in todays society.
Where they could overtake there was no isssue to be had, when they couldn't they were offended at my presence and let me know.

Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

i understand, only 7kms, what could go wrong. has been disappointing result. take up jogging.

i live semi rural and travel to the city sometimes, i reckon i can tell a city driver out my way , they have stacks of room to overtake but they sit on you bumper, its annoying. what do you do.

Firstly, I have long maintained that we could cut congestion, pollution, and the road toll by simply IQ testing people before allowing them behind the wheel.

That said, riding a scooter Or a bike (or roller-skates) in traffic isn't smart either. It's like swimming with Killer Whales, they probably won't attack you, but if they do you're dead. And it's not just bikes, I have the same argument against tiny flyweight cars.

I will also make the point that people on the ultra ****ant scooters are extremely annoying. At the lights they sneak down on the inside to get in front, then proceed to dawdle along in front, take forever to get up to speed, if they can even manage the speed limit. And whilst they're happy to hug the inside to sneak past, when if font they wander all over making it impossible to pass. Even when there is a flaming cycle lane.

And it seems to be that all bike riders get a mandatory hypocrisy implant.
They defend all their annoying and obnoxious behaviour on the grounds that it is within the law, but scream blue murder at the perfectly lawful behaviour of motorists.

End of the day, its your choice to buy the scooter, don't blame others because it makes you feel unsafe.

I saw a green car break the law once, therefore all green cars are lawbreakers. this seems to be the logic used in the post above, and most other 'anti bike/truck/caravan/cycle/4wd/non motorist' people.

If you saw a scooter make his way to the front and then cause issues etc, then all you saw was what you saw. you didn't see evidence of ALL scooter users. you saw one scooter user. your beef is with that rider. The same applies to any indiscretion you see on the road. even if you saw 10 road users of the same type do the same thing illegal, it isn't evidence against the whole community. Its just 10 people breaking the law.

You sound like one of the many impatient drivers who is always in a hurry, maybe you should have an IQ test.

Cheers.
