what exactly is the point of them using such cars? is it because they are quick? or because they are pricey? what?

or is it that they want these cars at work cuz they cant afford them on their pathetic salaries?

if they want something quick, why not buy an au falcon and work the *** off it? would have it running 11's for about 40 grand.

I agree. I was talking 2 an officer at a motor show displaying one of the red Monaros and he was saying that in an average week they would b involved in 1 high speed pursuit, as apposed 2 the SS which on average was 1 a night.

but if i am over 140 when i c the red and blue i would have 2 give it a shot anyway

The headlights flash opposed when the blues and twos are on - next time a cop or any emergency services car is under code 1 or 2 look at the lights they flash LEFT then RIGHT then LEFT then RIGHT and so on

My understanding is Govt purchases are list less 39%. Therefore the Govt pays approx $37,000 for the car. Keep it for 40000kms and sell it for $35,000. No stamp duty. A good deal for the Govt.

Thats most likely the reason why they choose cars like the F6, its got the street cred so a lot of people will second think themselves

also the fact it stands out like a pilgrim in an unholy land. oh and accelerates and handles pretty damn good

i couldnt think of a better all round pursuit car really...

How come they aren't allowed an STi or an EVO because they aint domestic? Is it because they are manual?

AFAIK they cost less than a F6 and more than an XR8. So in the middle I guess.

At least when they chuck the ******* crims in the back of one of those, they won't enjoy a nice ride back to the cells. Very stiff suspension :

You my friend have been caught out. Now you must admit that you are a brilliant tool. Why? Because isn't your XR8 that you purchased from Bx Toyota a ex Victorian HWP? : :

All the banter about giving the cops just Falcon XTs and the like just dont have a clue. I can say that the cops buy more LPG XTs then petrol ones and the XR6s go much better from a standing start and up to speed.

Remember even though these will be povvo packs as far as the rest of the world is concerned all typhoons are the same and this is going to hurt.
Luckily all the police ones up here are red and I have never actually seen a red typhoon.
One mans sadness is anothers joy, I cant wait to see the price they fetch at auction - but then I have nothing to miss out on from some bargain basement sale prices, maybe even something to gain!

Does QLD police have any sort of aerial pursuit capability? To me it would seem wiser to have that than pursuit cars... what kind of retard is going to try outrun a chopper or aircraft that can see all around them and, generally, travel a lot faster than they can (if need be)?

Default Pursuit Speeds

Don't know if anyone posted this reply but the police in Vic can do up to 150 kmh conditions permitting in a chase normally.

To do unlimited speed they have to do a special course, they run the final test at the Safe Driving Area at Puckapunyal.

The interesting thing is that even when they have the license to do unlimited speed, they still have to obey stop signs, that is come to a complete halt, as well as give way signs, childrens crossings etc.

So if your on the open hwy you'd be stuffed trying to outrun the police, however in town the police can go real fast in a straight line but really slow down for corners etc and therefore are really easy to outrun.

However don't try this, it is dumb.

As a tax payer I am seriously concerned about how many Police XR8/SS etc are on the road, leaving aside that as a Ford fan I like them buying Xr's of course.

I honestly believe that majority should be XR6 Na's and 6 Commode S's fitted with all the same sort of equiptment and there should only be one or perhaps 2 {in some regions** V8 or Turbo cars for pursuits, which remember are not supposed to go on after certain speeds and safety limits are surpassed anyway, as the 6's these days are as fast as the V8s of not long ago, Maybe even handle/brake better than todays 8's and the main reason of them all, use less fuel. I see more V8 cars than 6 cyl these days and the extra 2-5 litres they are using per 100km going on the windscreen stickers and real world tests, not mentioning the hugely long periods that these cars are left to idle, adds up to hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars extra in taxpayers money when you add up a whole state across the year. Money, that doesnt need to be spent, pursuits are rare, they are supposed to be cut off at certain speeds/safety (as mentioned above), and Police are not supposed to be promting going above the limit {even when going to pull a car up**, and; 99.9% of the time they have their lights on before the offender gets to them and so subsuquently they are pulled over and stopped within a very short distance.

A SS/XR8 is only going to show any major bennifit over a N/A 6 Auto/Man XR6 over about 70 kmh so therefore only in pursuits of which there are not that many, therefore 1-2 V8 cars per region is more than sufficiant...PS...Sorry to all the patrol officers who love the excitement of revving your V8 out to 6 grand to pull up a granny doing 15kmh over the limmit

I can deffinatly see the $1.20 per lite savings been spent on Hospitals/Dams.

They are using them as a visual presence on the raod as well, creates some interest etc as well.

Of course that didnt stop the young guy up here yesterday in a chase. 9, read it 9, police cars were in pursuit one after the other mind you which was rather a tad funny.
