Steve and I share the EL, have shared every car. When we get the sandman on the road we'll both be driving that too. There is no way that I would let anyone other than Steve drive the car unless it was essential... Even then I would struggle. I especially dont let my parents drive the car. Mum treats her Au like a taxi and dads au ute (in his mind) is just his work sh|tta.

I don't have an issue,we both have our cars, she drive's a Honda CRV and it's our get around car shopping etc as i use it most of the time myself as far as my GT she had driven it numerous of times she even has done a Drivers performance course with my GTP at Sandown through Murcott(should have seen the reaction from the instructers when she rolled up in my GT lol ) and i have the utmost confidence in her driving my GTP. but i must say she does prefer to drive the CRV she dosent feel too comfortable when driving the GT she get's too worried if something might happen to it.
Cheers John

I regularly let my girlfriend drive the big XB - mainly because she doesn't like to drink much and I do, so she ends up being DD fairly often. She doesn't like driving it much though - it's too big, corners too badly, and you have to know exactly how to treat it for it to treat you well. She does look funny with the seat all the way forward and seat back all the way up in the enormous car though

I have had a couple of girlfriends this year and last and not one of them would even get into my BA GT with me driving. Out of all my friends that are girls there is only 2 that love getting into the GT. The rest are to scared. So I guess if any of them were game to drive it maybe I would let them.

Erm...who doesn't...?

My missus has driven every car we've owned since she got her licence fairly "late in life" at 25. She's not keen on the Celica, as it's a bit hard on the steering at low speeds with the wide tyres and no power steering, but otherwise she drives the lot. I'm actually sorry she didn't get a chance to drive the barnstorming Charger I had when I was eighteen...if I'd have done the bloody sensible thing and kept it she would be driving it now.

She'll be driving the Celica when I finish building the stove-hot twin cam 18RG with twin side draft Solex's that's sitting in the shed on an engine stand...why not?

I'd let my gf drive my car. But its bigger then her Echo so its "too big"

I laughed very hard when she told me she had to drive one of those 12 seater minibuses at work.

My wifes driven all my cars turbos, 8s, rockcrawling toys doesn't bother me, in general 99.9% of people would be gentler on a car than me.

If something happens I insure everything.

Maybe people who think there stock 20 year old falcon, or super powerful stock BA is to powerful for her to handle invest in some driver training for your partner and worry more about her safety in any vehicle instead of a scratch on your car.

I have two cars (ba xr8) and df LTD, Both ford v8s

The mrs has the ba fairmont. She hardly lets me drive it, actually never does

I dont mind letting her drive my cars but I have a brand new set of 19s so ill wince as she goes through a roundabout. I also dont park my cars in certain places, communal carparks, she knows it and wont drive them if she wants to go there.

So she pretty much never touches my cars, not because I dont want her to drive them but because I dont park my cars in such places.

Even the mrs is particular where she parks and looks for big spots, near poles. etc

I have never let anyone drive cars I have owned. Most of my friends drive like pedal-happy morons, my mother has no respect for her own car let alone anybody else's, my father has no idea what is going on around him when driving (he does 60 in a 100 zone and 100 in a 60 zone most of the time) and the last girlfriend I had didn't know how to drive.

I don't think it's a stupid thread - There are a lot of people on here, particularly those with classics, that don't let ANYONE drive their car, EVER. I was like this until the incident that gave rise to this post. Since then my wife drove that car EVERYWHERE, and a burden was lifted - someone else could be trusted behind the wheel of my pride and joy.

It is amusing that people have this idea that when they own a car no one but themselves are capable of driving it.. as if it has a special technique required.

I admit I used to be like that, but once I started letting dad n a few people drive it I quickly learned that's just not the case.

Sometimes it's fun having someone else drive your car and seeing their reaction and being surprised. Sort of makes it worth the $$ spent.

My $0.02

I don't anyone things special technique is required to drive their car, its more about not wanting their machinery damaged by reckless others. I probably treat my daily driver better than most treat their cars.

I have a mate who has asked a few times to borrow my boss. No reason just been in it a few times and wants to take it for a cruise, he would leave me his car no probs (vw r32). I won't let him take it because I can count the times he has popped into my place with someone elses car, offered me a drive and fishtailed it up the road as he left. I'm not saying anyones spouse would do the same but if you take care of your car you take care of it 100% of the time so no other drivers

I dont have a problem with the GF driving the car if I am a passenger.
Its when she drives it on her own that concerns me a little, but this is usually when she has to due to whatever reason. Shes very careful when she drives it and I honestly think she would be more upset if anything were to happen to it while she were driving than I would as she knows how much I enjoy my car.
