Article quotes MPi for the manual, and TBi for the auto.

16 flat for the VN auto is bloody quick thats about par with the 3.6 Alloytec VZ and VE - cars which develop 175kw and 180kw respectively.

What are the figures for the VN V8?

VN's are the most over rated crap boxes out of the holden range
yeah they are 200 or something kilos lighter etc but come on

place a EA 5 speed against a 5 speed VN and i bet a good e series driver will win hands down.

auto Vs auto the VN has the better gbox imho ;)

I've got an old Wheels from April 89 and they reckon the VN V8 auto was the fastest current sedan in the world.... but they forgot about BMWs V12 750 and European model 560SEL Benz which would have raped anything from Holden then.

Anyway they got 7.0 0-100 and 15.1 1/4 mile, with a best gas figure of 20.9 l/100km. They never managed to beat or come close to that figure afterwards, sounds familiar.

With the exception of the Group A and a few hot HSV models, VNs are up there with Civics, just laugh and shake your head. Nice when they came out, the biggest pieces of shyte now, if they havent fallen to bits.

Theres a guy on justcommodores forum he has been here before, He owns a VN V6 Auto and a VP V8 Auto. the V6 run a best under 7 seconds 100 on a g-tech system. And the V8 ran a 5.95 100 g-tech also. Both are stock internally and don't have any bolt ons just ECU advanced tunes.

IMHO a g-tech is not a true time, go to a strip with a proper timing setup and you got proof on the time sheet. My 99 Sports Magna (3.5V6, 5spd, extractors, exhaust) ran a time of 14.93 at 107mph, but they claim a 0-100km/h time of 8.2secs, I have never been beaten by a V6 Vn manual or auto, so I dont see how they could have a time of 7secs........ unless done on a g-tec. lol

And a V8 time of 5.95??? Beaten quite a few of them too. 5.95.... hahah that's like MY02 WRX times..... never heard of a VN V8 or not doing a WRX, have you?

Your quite right, just searched through my desk(mrs gonna kill me shit everywhere now) and found the slip, it was actually 14.953@155.2km/h (which is 97mph, was close to the mark).

Now what would It take to get my EF futura up to this kinda speed? Forced induction would be best yeah?

i own both a Vn 5 spd (110,000km) and an ef series 2, both bog stock.

there is no way in the world the falcon could keep up.

down4u- yeah well you are comparing a commodore manual to falcon autos.
how about comparing commodore manual to falcon manual.
the commodore would be the one not keeping up.

g-tech times are rubbish how slow is that v6 really just dies when it gets to second

Actally .... Vn,s all have a 3.08 diff ratio. Many Falcons have a far more agressive ratio than that. The problem is... tadaaaa... Falcons weigh 400 kilograms more.
Funny that with all that extra tin they bend just as easily though (when they hit a tree).
Last week i tried my old VN Auto Calais (diff: 3.08:1)against my 99 AU Ghia (diff:3.45:1) and geuss what, the old VN with 250,000 klm on the clock won.
There is a better thing for the really heavy Ghia though. It goes up hills better than the old Calais. So some of it is good. Ford is comfyer as well.
