In the US the Ranger Raptor with the 2.3 ecoboost will be viewed as the "baby Raptor" and appeal much in the same way as a hot hatch. here its a big vehicle

I would too. I have a XL single cab with the 2.2 diesel. If a petrol equivalent was available when I was shopping, i would have had it taken that option and rid myself of the potential problems diesels have with short, low speed trips.

For me, purely on principle, the hero car should have a hero engine (or at the very least, an exclusive variant of an engine). Offering it with the same engine that will be available range-wide next year, takes some of the wind out of the model's sails.

Just look at the power and torque tables posted earlier in the thread for a visual representation. One of the websites, either goauto or caradvice claimed the engine is 75kg lighter than the 3.2 too. |

So any power train updates will be in the next generation, I think Maric is full of crap, there will be no US Raptor in this generation. |

Starting to finally be able to actually get insurance quotes on some insurance websites. Pretty much the same price as a Wildtrak, and somehow cheaper with a few?
I’ll never understand underwriters. 10k more expensive and basically designed to be naughty, but is cheaper to insure... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My biggest need is recovery insurance and Australia wide coverage. Anywhere and everywhere and it seems that only a few cover that specifically. Like AJG and club 4x4 etc

Sounds like a good idea. I'm guessing more expensive, but not as expensive as writing off your rig and not being covered.
Something i'll have to think about if I get myself into a 4by. |

club 4x4 say a lot but you need to read their policy carefully as its not all what I expected, eg recovery is to the nearest road only and you might be on it !!!!

Yeah I’ve noticed their amended PDS now basically says that if you’re stuck, they will unstick you so you can continue your journey. But if you’re mechanically broken down and it can’t be fixed they will tow/recover you. There is also yet another excess on top of that... So maybe not it’s all it’s cracked up to be. |

Great car, shame about that engine. Should have the Ecoboost engine, but we already knew that.

Look the reality is that the engine has more power than:
1) Toyota Hilux 2) Ranger Wildtrak 3) Isuzu Dmax 4) Nissan Navara 5) Mitsu Triton Essentially you have 3 choices if you want a faster ute: 1) buy the Mercedes when the V6 comes out in December 2) buy the V6 Amarok 3) chip your own and void your warranty That's it for now. I'm so sick of hearing about the engine. We get it. It's slow. It's still going to sell and Ford knows it. I'm still going to buy one. This issue of more power seems to be some newly concocted problem, and I think it's to do with the expectations surrounding the "raptor" legacy. Do I wish it had a bigger motor, sure. But is it he be-all-end-all of the raptor? No. |

Unless you want to import an F150 Raptor, but that would not do well on our tight bush tracks. Too wide, too long and range would probably be limited. |

From what I gather Ford Asia Pacific has been wanting to do a Raptor for years
but one of the conditions was that they only use engines available to the main project. The other bit to this is that the inclusion of the 2.3 EB for US Ranger was only done well after final lock in for the Ranger Raptor so not available anyway. So this is the run to the finish of GEN1 T6, GEN 2 will arrive Q3 or Q4 l2021. F150 Raptor and Ranger Raptors are not your traditional bush bashers, they are more of a desert runner - the kind of thing you use on more open dirt roads where people might like to get along at speeds that would start to get rather hairy in a regular Ranger/Colorado/Hilux/Navara. If you want something more akin to a muscle chested bush basher, then the new Colorado Z71 Extreme is probably a much better equipped and tyred Ute |

It will handle rough terrain, but its not the baja desert racer some may be hoping for.

I suspect it has to do with that and the variability of our local diesel.... it could also be progressive development of the HP tune in the 2.0 Panther, Ranger Raptor leap frogs the tune used in 6AT/6MT UK diesel Edge now the 8AT/6MT diesel version leap frogs Ranger Raptor. Maybe buyers have to shell out for either an ST Line or Titanium to get the good engine,
I hope we get the one good tune across the range, at +$49 K you should be getting that. The lower engines are 139 Kw and 110 Kw which is a bigger come down than the just superseded pair of 157 Kw (6AT) and 135 Kw (6MT) |
