Ford has taken the punt that a 2.0 diesel, 10-speed auto in Ranger Raptor
is the way to go with the majority of Ranger's predominantly diesel markets.

We keep reading that people dismiss the vehicle because of the engine,
the non-buyer will convince you that their opinion must be heard above
everyone else, why not give the vehicle a chance and let actual buyers
decide whether they like it or not.

It's all we have for now, so complain away, you won't see anything different until 2021.

To be fair jpd, how is that any different than the buyer trying to convince you that it is going to be awesome before they've driven it for any period of time, at the end of the day it is all just opinion until it is tested.
If anything, those who refuse to hear criticism have been the quickest to respond in numbers.

I love how Dodge has the balls to launch the last generation Ram as a "new product" in Aus..

Some of those are also built in Mexico with plans to transition all production to the US.

RAM 1500 is $80K now as its being imported and converted locally with factory backing by ASV here in Melbourne, its on par with Ranger Raptor and upper spec VW Amarok prices.

Yes I'm aware it doesn't have anywhere near the 4x4 capabilities of the Ranger Raptor, but it will also spend the majority of its time on the street just quietly.

I really really hope that it does well and people buy these in cities and in rural areas, because that will be blood in the water for other manufacturers to hopefully bring more Full Size trucks to Australia. It's the same thing with the raptor engine how they say Australia will never buy this etc. I think you'd be surprised.

I think it is only a matter of time once buyers get a taste of how nice they can actually be, and how driveable they are. Having owned an F250 Lariat back in the states I can tell you it they really feel like driving a car. All the luxuries etc.

Even just a few years ago no one would think dual cab utes for a family car, but it's happening. Sedans are quickly going out of style for SUVs and utes.

Do you really need a truck that big? Probably not, but why not if you can afford it. Do I really need a 500hp car that can go fast? No. But I want one.

Yep I'd take the Raptor to a drag strip (it's natural habitat right?), and save my Focus RS for 4WDing!

RAM 1500 has pathetic payload for the size of the vehicle. Only about 800kg I believe.

Hence the '1500' moniker - 1500, 2500 and 3500 indicate '1/2 tonne, 3/4 tonne and 1 tonne' variants with different towing capacities and payloads.

1500 is the baby of the family.

Not really and you are missing the point.

The 10 speed is in it to make up for the pathetic 2.0l diesel and this shows it is still freaking slow and its a poor excuse for the name Raptor.

Yes, it has the goods suspension wise but as has been said here most will spend 99% of their time on sealed metro roads and its embarrassingly slow.

It was mentioned in a test elsewhere that it struggles on overtaking and this confirms why. So don't try passing a road train on your way to the bush unless you have a LOT of spare space otherwise you may not get there

.

Such a shame and lets hope Ford pull the digit out on the next upgrade.

I'm not against dual cab utes - I quite like the American variants as it can fit 5 people in it, can fit things in the back and they go acceptably, I've also previously owned a GMC Sierra 3500 and F100 (both single cab).

'Acceptably' is not a high 17 second 1/4 mile - I've got a manual turbo diesel Focus with light modifications that ran a 16.32 with torque limiter on the first 3 gears - it goes 'acceptably' for street use, something a bit quicker would be better.

I've driven all the modern Thailand special dual cab utes and they wouldn't get past a 18 year old woman on her way to pilates if she induced some highway aggro in her $5000-special first car TDCI Focus

I'm seeing a lot of people trying to defend the Ranger Raptor can fly over bumps and be mad off road - too bad it sucks in the other 99% of the time you drive the car, its not worthy of the 'Raptor' branding and it cheapens the brand, same as the HSV 'sportscat'.

And the Ram Laramie is too big for an every day run around, and 130k, which leaves 50k to install/engineer a 5.0 into the RR

17 seconds is unacceptable for an offroad 4x4 but somehow 16.39 IS acceptable for a road car?
