A friend that works in the Geelong plant was to have a down day tomorrow but it was canceled and the ones for next week have also been cancelled

The assembly plant can only build a certain number of Territory's per day. To do that they need to build a certain number of Falcons .... The ration is about 1 to 2.

Thie means the more Territory's that are built, the more Falcons (which can't be sold) must also be built ...

They can't build a lot more Territorys ....... but they can ask a premium price for them when they go on sale (no discounts).

Down days are scheduled for the forseeable future ...

Drive past the Assembly plant and look at the thousands of cars (mostly Falcons) that have no buyers !!

Manufacturing are working some down days, but the assembly plant are NOT building cars on those days ...

Not entirely true. Ford can build more Territory's than Falcon there just needs to be gaps left in the line where the falcon was, so to speak.
Ford have to build a certain number of cars a day to stay viable regardless of sales. Although a car is not sold it is still an asset.
Parts of the factory are working down days to make up for lost production due to break downs.
There are not just Falcons that are stockpiled there are also hundreds of Territory's aswell. I would say that these are being built to run out soon to be obsolete parts.

Time that every operator has on the production line. Terri can take more time then a sedan. Installing the LPG tank is also a problem on sedans. But Terry was a PITA and getting two in a row would be problematic for the line workers. Funny enough the Wagon was good as it would allow a catch up.

Throw ute's in there and it should be good. Problem is they need to sell them. LPG or lack of is hurting them.
