It's funny you know, some posters say they don't see or hear many new Falcon advertisements but perhaps
that could be due to them not being in the target demographic with a higher potential to actually go buy a new Falcon.

Maybe Ford is now starting to target actual buyers groups instead of spray hitting... mind you, every one should know about discounts.

Yeah I noticed the other night that they are using that ad again, which is more stale than a 3 week old loaf of bread. Poor effort, but better than nothing I suppose.

Do you guys realise just how much advertising costs?

There are 5 television networks and a national campaign starts in the millions of dollars so lets, for example, just set it to $1,000,000 for each channel.

At only $1000 per car they will have to sell an EXTRA 5000 cars, that is 5000 cars to people who were not going to buy one before the ad and that is to just break even.

But what about print media, radio, internet, social, sponsorship (hey if they withdrew completely from V8SC they would have the money) and all the other incidentals.

An the most ironic attribute of this thread is that the ones who are the most scathing on Ford's marketing DON'T ACTUALLY BUY NEW FORD VEHICLES yet Ford seem to sell a LOT of new vehicles and make a profit.

Maybe they are marketing the smart way and getting the best bang for buck, rather than trying to sell steak to vegetarians after all they are the company that sells a 4 litre car that thrashes a similar 6 litre car while costing less to run.....

Flappist, i hear what you're saying, but I still think a decent media campaign is needed to coincide with the launch of any new product. After the product is established and the general population is aware of the product, word of mouth and small volumes of advertising here and there are enough to keep it going.

I think its especially important for the EcoBoost falcon (and similarly the EcoLPI falcon) because of the target market. Models like the XR6T and the FPV models get enough exposure through magazine tests, forums, websites and the performance car scene 'word of mouth' as the target market is much more accessible through these methods. A new model like the EcoBoost Falcon is aimed more at the general public (people not 'into cars') much like the Territory and needs more general media exposure to kick the model off. 'Word of mouth' doesn't work if no one buys the car from the start, but it does work once a decent sales base has been established and the car is 'out there'.

And I know your figure of 5000 cars is just an example, but that figure of 5000 wouldn't be hard to make up over the next 3 years or so if it were in fact equivalent (in terms of $$) to say a heavy advertising campaign for the next 2 months.

My train of thought in terms of 'getting in early on the advertising and have a successful model throughout its life' is based on the success of the BA falcon. Im sure everyone remembers the 'cant get enough of this' ad campaign, at a guess this ad had a lot to do with the success of the B-series falcons.

At the end of the day though, they are a business, if they are making more profit selling only 1500 cars a month than they are selling 3000 heavily advertised cars a month (like the Commodore), so be it.

Amazing, when you put the right person in charge of marketing and give them a workable budget, great things begin to happen.
On top of people knowing about your products, they might start actually buying them too.....

Well done Ford, keep up the good work..

We are mainly talking about the Falcon. I see Commodore ads on TV but no Falcon ads. I do see Ford ads however. I also see Ford sponsor one of the football teams (I don't know which one as I don't follow that sport).

The problem is that not enough people are buying the Falcon. Yes, they buy other Fords but we're talking about how great the new Falcon is. People need to know that to get them to test drive it over or alongside the Commodore.

I bought a Falcon (my first Ford) late last year. I became aware of the 50th anniversary model through their advertising on TV. I was already interested in the FG model since it came out (I read car magazines) but the missus wasn't ready to buy a new car as yet.

Bottom line is that I want the Falcon to survive and for that to happen, I believe Ford need to advertise it.
