May 30! First ZB seen on the road. Guy pulled into same shopping centre. Turned out to be a loan car from Holden dealer as he was getting his Colorado serviced .Do you like it I asked. Its ok he said with no great enthusiasm. He couldn't figure out how to open the hatchback..neither could I.

He did tell me that he ahs put 180000kms on his Colorado in 2years with no issues... other than yes putting a bit of oil in it.

You -1 Me -0 so far . What did you think of it yourself , looks wise at least .

Why I ask is because when I first read , saw photos or vids about the FGX I wasn't totally enamored by it until I actually saw one for real . Then my opinion changed ..

Surprisingly I quite like the zb.
For its price you get a lot of car.
The grille is crap the rest is ok.
A 4 that performs its numbers better the Ford 2 litre in Focus and Mondeo and that motor is good.
A 6 that does 0-100 in 6.2 seconds and can be picked up for 43k.
A diesel wagon again for say 43.
And a neat high riding wagon with awd.

Sadly I think people hate them because the Holden fans are angry about their Australian made car stopping. I blame Abbott/Hockey/Truss and their free market bs. The libs now now throw big money at defence. The defence industry provides killing machines. The car industry provided mobility freedom and Aussie pride.
And of course the majority now are buying crude double cab utes and lardy heavy high suvs which are easier to drag their obese **** in and out of.

But the Zb would prob

Bugger! Didn't realise I needed to be obese to purchase/own a Dual cab ute. Maccas here I come!!

Although wouldn't it be harder to get up into a 4x4, if I was obese?

So what your saying if they made the same VF commodores overseas instead of the new ZB, people still wouldn't buy them out of protest to the Australian car industry stopping?

Blaming Politicians (particularly one side) is your own agenda.

reality is. most Aussies don't care where the car comes from.

Ford announced their closure during the Gillard/Swan/Brown period. It was THIS decision that led to Holden and Toyota closing.

True, but Toyota had a great export programme. I reckon the car industry could have run a few years with out Ford, but without say tarriffs ultimately doomed.

I have yet to see one on the road in Brisbane. Obviously there is a huge demand for them in this part of the world...clearly not.

Correct, same motor/outputs as the CX-9. Also found out the new Turbo Engine is only available on the higher grade cars (GT and Atenza) the lower grade (Sports and Touring) still rely on the 2.5 n/a motor, albeit with a few tweaks.

The sales figures for May should be out next week. Any predictions on the number of ZB Commodores? Go on, have a guess. I’m guessing 150. A little optimistic?

I've seen about 5 on the road since they were released, so it it's been a roaring success.
I see more Mustangs in a shopping centre carpark than I have seen ZB Commodores in thousands of kilometres of road travel.

The grill looks gay on the new commodores they should of beefed it up to at least look sporty sort of.
When one passes by you don't really notice what it is, it could be mistaken for a Astra or just any sh-t box. they just don't catch your eye.

It's the same anger you'd see if Ford killed off the Falcon and then rebadged a Mondeo the Falcon.
The problem wouldn't be that the Mondeo is a bad car, it would be that it's not a Falcon. If they killed the Commodore and just had the Insignia, you'd not get such a huge backlash, and it's not just Holden fans, pretty sure most people on this forum aren't that.

The name has a heritage, and people have strong emotional attachments to cars.

These cars were a lot of things to a lot of people. Family car. Muscle car. Tow car. Now it's none of that.

Family cars are SUVs. Tow cars are dual cabs. Muscle cars... well they're just gone. And I reckon that's why people are angry.

There's nothing "wrong" with the Insignia. Opel/Vauzhall have been selling them, in one form or another, for eons. I also understand the GM builds them in China as "Buicks".
But they're not a direct replacement for the Commodore.

They're also entering what is already an oversaturated and shrinking market. If you want a medium/large FWD sedan, then depending on whether you're over 70, buy a Mazda 6 or a Camry. If you're cheap, buy a Hynudai or Kia.

In trying to replace the power and sports heritage of the Commodore, they may well be pushing the V6 versions, but that market is dead.

Commodore and Buick Regal are all built in Germany and exported to US, China and Australia.
The buyers of Australia have voted but I wonder if Holden is even listening...

There's a nasty rumor circulating that Holden has over 20,000 vehicles on the grass, unsold.

Looking at car park at work, when a new Commodore was released would see a few new ones have only seen one ZB ,it was a loan car the VF was getting serviced. Asked him what he thought of the ZB said it was okay but he wouldn't buy one.
